Job Role Summary
The Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic responds in emergency vehicle to the Special Event as scheduled. This position manages, supervises and is responsible for all aspects of patient care by providing efficient and immediate basic and advanced life support at the scene, in transport, and in the emergency department. This position provides emergency medical care at the basic and advanced life support level according to Indianapolis EMS practices, policies, and established protocols.
Essential Job Functions
- Responds in an IEMS vehicle for coverage of a scheduled special event as directed by the Planning Section Chief
- Provides specific medical care in conjunction with physician, nursing and allied health staff in the hospital in accordance with established practices and protocols
- Calculates drip rates and drug concentrations, renders appropriate approved intravenous drugs or fluid replacement as indicated by online medical direction and/or established EMS Protocols
- Document in writing or by approved electronic means all relevant information in a prescribed format (I.E. Run Report, ESO Report)
- Responsible and accountable for maintaining controlled medications (narcotics)
- Drives an emergency vehicle under emergent and non-emergent conditions.
- Exercises independent judgment in critical, emergency situations.
- Coordinates public safety personnel in emergency situations.
- Attends continuing education, refresher courses, medical audit programs and training programs as required by IEMS, medical direction, or certifying agency.
- Participates actively in continuing education and medical audit programs.

- May function alone or as a member of the Special Events Team
- Supervises and directs the activities and educational/clinical experiences of assigned observers and students.
- Safely operate in and around emergency equipment
- Protects the patient(s), self, and other providers from possible contamination.
- Takes safety precautions to protect the injured and those assisting in the care of the patient(s)
- Complies with regulations for the handling of crime scenes and prehospital deaths by notifying the appropriate authorities and arranging for protection of property and evidence at the scene.

- Indiana Paramedic License
- Currently working in a 911 setting within Marion County or the surrounding counties
- Valid Driver’s License – must meet and remain in compliance with IEMS driver eligibility policy
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification
- American Heart Association CPR Certification
- Emergency Vehicle Operator Certification
- Continuing education to maintain required certifications
