Paramedic Jobs in North Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a paramedic in North Carolina?
You become a paramedic in North Carolina by completing an accredited paramedic education program, passing the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians cognitive and psychomotor exams, and then applying for state certification through the North Carolina Office of EMS. Community colleges across the state, including Wake Technical Community College and Central Piedmont Community College, offer accredited paramedic programs that meet the Office of EMS entry requirements.
How much do paramedics make in North Carolina?
Paramedics in North Carolina earn a median of about $57,320 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $44,730 for the lowest 10% to over $75,170 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire paramedics in North Carolina?
Employers hiring paramedics in North Carolina right now include Advocate Aurora Health, Atrium Health, and UNC Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. North Carolina's mix of large health system-based EMS operations, county 911 services, and air medical programs means hiring is distributed well beyond the major metros.
Which North Carolina cities have the most paramedic jobs?
Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and Charlotte have the most paramedic job openings in North Carolina. Charlotte and Raleigh lead because of their large health system campuses and dense county EMS call volumes, while Greensboro anchors the Triad region with multiple hospital-based and municipal services drawing consistent demand.
Are there remote paramedic jobs in North Carolina?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of paramedic openings tied to North Carolina are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, which reflects the hands-on, field-based nature of most paramedic work. The roles most likely to carry any remote component are community paramedicine coordinator positions and EMS education or training coordinator roles with administrative responsibilities.
How can I get hired as a paramedic in North Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as an EMT-Basic or EMT-Advanced with a county EMS agency or health system while you complete your paramedic certification. Large North Carolina employers like WakeMed and Atrium Health regularly hire new-graduate paramedics into structured field training officer programs, and many county services across Mecklenburg, Wake, and Guilford counties post entry-level paramedic openings specifically designed for candidates fresh out of a state-accredited program. Holding your North Carolina Office of EMS certification and NREMT card at the time you apply gives you a clear edge.
Where can I find and apply to paramedic jobs in North Carolina?
You can find and apply to paramedic jobs in North Carolina on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state right now. Search the listings, find roles that match your certification level and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
