HVAC Jobs in Durham: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a hvac job in Durham?
Target the sectors driving Durham's hvac demand: healthcare systems, university and research facilities, and the commercial and multifamily construction projects reshaping downtown and the Ninth Street and American Tobacco districts. Contractors and facilities management firms near Research Triangle Park hire consistently. Candidates with experience in building automation, medical-grade HVAC systems, or large commercial installs stand out in this market.
Which companies hire hvacs in Durham?
Companies currently hiring hvacs in Durham include Cook Out Restaurants, ARS/Rescue Rooter, and CBRE, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Durham's mix of university campuses, hospital networks, and commercial developers means both large regional contractors and in-house facilities teams are active employers here.
Are there remote hvac jobs in Durham?
Yes, though sparingly: hands-on hvac installation and service work is almost entirely on-site by nature, making fully remote roles rare. About 0% of hvac openings tied to Durham are remote or hybrid as of September 2026. The roles most likely to allow remote or hybrid schedules are HVAC estimating, project management, and energy auditing positions tied to Durham's commercial and institutional sectors.
How can I get a hvac job in Durham with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Durham is an apprenticeship or helper position with a mechanical contractor serving the city's active construction and facilities sectors. Companies supporting Research Triangle Park campuses and Durham's hospital networks regularly bring on apprentices through trade programs at Durham Technical Community College. Entry-level candidates who can demonstrate familiarity with refrigerants, basic wiring, or building controls get to the front of the line.
