Information Security Engineer Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a information security engineer in Florida?
Florida does not require a state-issued license specific to information security engineering, so the path runs through education and industry credentials. Most hiring managers expect a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, or information technology, paired with certifications such as CISSP, CompTIA Security+, or CEH. Florida's large defense and healthcare sectors often add clearance eligibility or HIPAA compliance knowledge as practical requirements before a first offer.
How much do information security engineers make in Florida?
Information security engineers in Florida earn a median of about $124,860 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $75,410 for the lowest 10% to over $174,600 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire information security engineers in Florida?
Employers hiring information security engineers in Florida right now include L3Harris, Ryder System, and Astrion, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Florida's mix of defense contractors, major regional banks, hospital networks, and state agency IT offices means openings appear across a wide range of organization types and security specialties.
Which Florida cities have the most information security engineer jobs?
Eglin AFB, Miami, and Tampa have the most information security engineer openings in Florida. Miami's concentration of international financial institutions and healthcare systems drives demand there, while Tampa's defense contractors and insurance sector anchor its market, and Orlando's tourism-tied technology operations and growing fintech presence generate steady security hiring.
Are there remote information security engineer jobs in Florida?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 43% of information security engineer openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves monitoring dashboards, reviewing logs, and managing cloud environments that require no physical presence. Roles requiring hands-on lab work, classified network access, or on-site incident response tend to stay fully in-office.
How can I get hired as a information security engineer in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a junior security analyst or IT support role at a Florida hospital system, regional bank, or government agency and building toward an engineering title from within. Large Florida employers such as AdventHealth and state agencies under the Florida Department of Management Services regularly post entry-level security support roles. Earning CompTIA Security+ before applying, and building a home lab portfolio demonstrating network monitoring or vulnerability scanning, gives candidates a concrete edge over others without direct work history.
Where can I find and apply to information security engineer jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to information security engineer jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current Florida openings across industries including defense, healthcare, and financial services. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and specialty, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
