Information Security Intern Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a information security intern in Florida?
The most direct path is enrolling in a cybersecurity or information technology degree program at a Florida college or university, then applying to internship openings during your sophomore or junior year. Florida has no state-issued license specific to information security interns, but employers strongly favor candidates who have earned or are pursuing CompTIA Security+. Institutions like Florida State University, University of Florida, and Valencia College offer programs with strong ties to regional employers, and campus career centers often post intern openings before they reach general listings.
Which companies hire information security interns in Florida?
Employers hiring information security interns in Florida right now include L3Harris, Ryder System, and Astrion, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Florida's concentration of defense contractors near Tampa and Orlando, alongside major financial institutions and health systems in Miami, means a broad mix of industries fills these roles year-round.
Which Florida cities have the most information security intern jobs?
Eglin AFB, Miami, and Tampa account for the largest share of information security intern openings in Florida. Tampa draws volume from defense contractors and financial firms headquartered in the metro, Miami's concentration of banks and multinational corporations fuels demand there, and Orlando's mix of technology firms and government-adjacent employers keeps openings consistent in that market as well.
Are there remote information security intern jobs in Florida?
Yes, and more than many technical fields, because security analysis, log review, and compliance tasks translate well to remote work environments. About 43% of information security intern openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how many employers have normalized distributed security teams. Roles focused on threat monitoring, vulnerability reporting, and policy documentation are the most likely to allow remote or hybrid schedules, while positions involving lab environments or classified systems typically require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a information security intern in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a recognized cybersecurity certificate such as CompTIA Security+ and building a small home lab or participating in capture-the-flag competitions to demonstrate hands-on ability. Florida defense contractors like Lockheed Martin and L3Harris run structured intern cohorts that accept students without prior professional experience if academic standing is strong. Community college IT programs at institutions like Miami Dade College and Florida Technical College often partner with regional employers specifically to place students in first-time security roles. Adjacent positions in IT helpdesk or systems administration at Florida healthcare systems or financial firms are also a common bridge into security-focused work.
Where can I find and apply to information security intern jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to information security intern jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current Florida openings in one place. Search the roles that match your background and apply directly to whichever ones fit your schedule, location preference, and the skills you want to develop.
