Information Security Intern Jobs in Alabama: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a information security intern in Alabama?
The most direct path is enrolling in a cybersecurity or computer science degree program at an Alabama university, then applying to internship postings during your sophomore or junior year. Alabama does not require a state-issued license for information security interns, but employers in Huntsville's defense corridor frequently require eligibility for a federal security clearance. Earning CompTIA Security+ before applying strengthens your candidacy at most Alabama hiring organizations.
Which companies hire information security interns in Alabama?
Companies currently hiring information security interns in Alabama include Sanmina, Bow Wave, and Everforth ECS, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Alabama's concentration of defense contractors in Huntsville and financial institutions in Birmingham means large-scale, structured internship programs are more common here than in many similarly sized states.
Which Alabama cities have the most information security intern jobs?
Huntsville, Birmingham, and Montgomery have the most information security intern openings in Alabama. Huntsville's density of federal defense contractors and government agencies drives the bulk of postings, while Birmingham's financial services and healthcare sector anchor demand there, and Montgomery's state government agencies and insurance industry support a smaller but consistent share of openings.
Are there remote information security intern jobs in Alabama?
Yes, though they are less common than in fully desk-based fields, since many security intern roles involve hands-on access to on-site systems or classified environments. About 33% of information security intern openings tied to Alabama are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with remote options most often found in roles focused on security analysis, log review, or compliance documentation rather than network infrastructure work.
How can I get hired as a information security intern in Alabama with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying through university career centers at Alabama institutions like the University of Alabama, Auburn University, or UAH, which maintain direct pipelines to Huntsville defense employers and Birmingham financial firms that run structured intern cohorts for students without prior work experience. Building a home lab, earning CompTIA Security+, and completing coursework in networking or ethical hacking compensates for thin resumes. Entry-level IT help desk or systems administration roles at Alabama state agencies also serve as a lateral entry point into security teams.
Where can I find and apply to information security intern jobs in Alabama?
You can find and apply to information security intern jobs in Alabama on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your background and location, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
