Accounting Intern Jobs in Alabama: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accounting intern in Alabama?
Most accounting intern positions in Alabama require active enrollment in an accredited accounting or finance program at an Alabama university such as the University of Alabama, Auburn University, or UAB. Employers typically look for completion of introductory accounting coursework before hiring. While Alabama does not require a license to intern, candidates planning to sit for the CPA exam should note that the Alabama State Board of Public Accountancy governs licensure requirements relevant to their longer-term career path.
Which companies hire accounting interns in Alabama?
Companies currently hiring accounting interns in Alabama include CVS Health, Alabama State Department of Education, and Republic Finance, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Alabama's mix of large financial institutions, manufacturing headquarters, and public sector agencies creates a broad range of intern placement settings.
Which Alabama cities have the most accounting intern jobs?
Birmingham, Huntsville, and Mobile have the most accounting intern openings in Alabama. Birmingham leads as the state's financial and corporate hub, home to major banking and insurance employers, while Huntsville's defense and aerospace contractors drive demand there, and Montgomery's concentration of state government agencies and regional firms supports a consistent volume of public-sector and corporate intern roles.
Are there remote accounting intern jobs in Alabama?
Yes, though they are less common than in fully desk-based fields, since many accounting intern roles involve in-person document handling, team collaboration, and on-site software access. About 22% of accounting intern openings tied to Alabama are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting a growing but still selective subset. Tasks most likely to be performed remotely include spreadsheet analysis, data reconciliation, and report preparation.
How can I get hired as a accounting intern in Alabama with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to formal intern programs run by Alabama's large employers before completing all upper-level coursework. Regions Financial, Protective Life, and the Alabama Department of Finance regularly recruit students with limited professional experience if they have completed foundational coursework. Volunteering with VITA tax assistance sites through Alabama universities, joining a campus accounting organization, and earning an Excel or QuickBooks certification can meaningfully strengthen an application without prior paid experience.
Where can I find and apply to accounting intern jobs in Alabama?
You can find and apply to accounting intern jobs in Alabama on Migrate Mate, which lists current Alabama openings updated regularly. Search for roles that match your availability, preferred city, and area of focus, then apply directly to the ones that fit your background.
