Information Systems Security Officer Jobs in Nebraska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a information systems security officer in Nebraska?
Nebraska does not issue a state-specific license for information systems security officers, so the path runs through education and federal certifications. Most Nebraska employers, particularly those tied to Offutt Air Force Base, defense contractors, and state agencies, expect a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity or information technology alongside credentials such as CISSP, CompTIA Security+, or CISM. Candidates pursuing roles with classified environments should also start the clearance process as early as possible, since adjudication can take considerable time.
Which companies hire information systems security officers in Nebraska?
Companies currently hiring information systems security officers in Nebraska include Amentum, Conagra Brands, and University of Nebraska at Omaha, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Nebraska's concentration of defense contractors, federal civilian agencies, and large financial institutions like Mutual of Omaha and First National Bank of Omaha means security officer demand remains consistent across both the public and private sectors.
Which Nebraska cities have the most information systems security officer jobs?
Omaha, Lincoln, and Offutt AFB account for the largest share of information systems security officer openings in Nebraska. Omaha leads because it anchors the state's defense contracting ecosystem around Offutt Air Force Base and hosts the headquarters of major financial and insurance employers, while Lincoln draws openings from University of Nebraska system operations and state government agencies that manage sensitive citizen and infrastructure data.
Are there remote information systems security officer jobs in Nebraska?
Yes, and more than many technical roles, since security review, policy writing, and compliance documentation transfer well to remote settings. About 38% of information systems security officer openings tied to Nebraska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, though roles requiring access to classified systems or on-site infrastructure assessments at facilities like Offutt Air Force Base remain firmly on-site. Risk assessment and documentation-heavy positions are the most likely to carry remote or hybrid flexibility.
How can I get hired as a information systems security officer in Nebraska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a junior information technology or cybersecurity analyst role at a Nebraska defense contractor or state agency, where candidates build hands-on exposure to security controls and compliance documentation. Nebraska's defense contractor community around Offutt Air Force Base frequently brings in entry-level IT security support staff, and the University of Nebraska system runs internship and fellowship pipelines into state government cybersecurity teams. Earning CompTIA Security+ before applying and initiating the security clearance process early gives candidates a measurable edge over peers who wait.
Where can I find and apply to information systems security officer jobs in Nebraska?
You can find and apply to information systems security officer jobs in Nebraska on Migrate Mate, which lists current Nebraska openings. Search the available roles, identify the ones that fit your experience and clearance level, and apply directly to each position that matches.
