Information Systems Security Officer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a information systems security officer in Texas?
Most information systems security officer roles in Texas require a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, information systems, or computer science combined with a recognized certification such as CISSP, CISM, or CompTIA Security+. Texas does not issue a state-specific license for this role, but positions tied to defense or federal contracts typically require a security clearance obtained through a federal sponsoring agency. Candidates with experience in NIST, RMF, or FISMA frameworks are prioritized by Texas's large defense and government contracting employers.
Which companies hire information systems security officers in Texas?
Employers hiring information systems security officers in Texas right now include Lockheed Martin, Texas Instruments, and Riverside Research, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Texas's concentration of defense contractors, federal civilian agencies, and large financial institutions means demand is spread across multiple industries rather than concentrated in a single sector.
Which Texas cities have the most information systems security officer jobs?
Fort Worth, Austin, and Dallas lead Texas for information systems security officer openings. San Antonio's high concentration reflects its role as a major hub for U.S. military cyber operations and defense contractors, while Dallas-Fort Worth draws from large financial firms and technology companies, and Houston's demand is driven by energy sector compliance and petrochemical infrastructure security requirements.
Are there remote information systems security officer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most technical fields. About 0% of information systems security officer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based, analytical nature of much of the work. Roles focused on policy, compliance, risk assessment, and security documentation tend to be the most remote-eligible, while positions requiring hands-on access to classified systems or secure facilities remain firmly on-site.
How can I get hired as a information systems security officer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a related IT role such as systems administrator, network analyst, or help desk technician into a junior security analyst or security operations center position. Large Texas defense contractors and federal agencies occasionally hire associate-level or entry information security analysts, particularly candidates who hold an active clearance or have completed a CompTIA Security+ or CySA+ certification. Community college cybersecurity programs at institutions like San Jacinto College or Austin Community College can build foundational credentials that strengthen early applications.
Where can I find and apply to information systems security officer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to information systems security officer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across defense, government, financial services, and energy sectors. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your clearance level and experience, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
