Information Systems Security Officer Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a information systems security officer in Tennessee?
Tennessee does not issue a state license specific to information systems security officers, so entry is credential-driven rather than board-regulated. Most Tennessee employers require a CompTIA Security+ at minimum, with CISSP or CISM expected for senior positions. Candidates typically hold a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity or a related field, complete a clearance investigation for defense-sector roles, and build experience through IT security analyst or systems administrator positions before moving into a dedicated security officer function.
Which companies hire information systems security officers in Tennessee?
Employers hiring information systems security officers in Tennessee right now include Tennessee Board of Regents, Baptist Memorial Health Care, and Humana, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Tennessee's concentration of defense contractors, Oak Ridge federal facilities, and large healthcare systems like HCA Healthcare means demand is spread across both the public and private sectors.
Which Tennessee cities have the most information systems security officer jobs?
Nashville, Memphis, and Columbia have the most information systems security officer openings in Tennessee. Nashville drives volume through its healthcare industry headquarters and state government IT offices, while Oak Ridge and Knoxville benefit from Department of Energy facilities and the federal contractor ecosystem they anchor, pulling significant cleared-position demand into East Tennessee.
Are there remote information systems security officer jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, and more than many technical roles, since policy writing, compliance auditing, and risk assessments translate well to remote work. About 47% of information systems security officer openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, though positions requiring active clearance or hands-on system access are more likely to be on-site. Governance, risk, and compliance-focused roles are where remote flexibility appears most often.
How can I get hired as a information systems security officer in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a junior IT security analyst or systems administrator role, which large Tennessee employers like Oak Ridge National Laboratory, state agencies under the Tennessee Department of Finance and Administration, and Nashville-area hospital networks use as a feeder for security officer pipelines. Earning CompTIA Security+ before applying significantly improves candidacy, and Tennessee community colleges including Pellissippi State and Nashville State offer cybersecurity certificate programs aligned to those credentials. Lateral moves from network administration or IT helpdesk are common and well-recognized by Tennessee hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to information systems security officer jobs in Tennessee?
You can find and apply to information systems security officer jobs in Tennessee on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Tennessee employers. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level, clearance status, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
