Tips for Your Insurance Assistant Job Search
Tailor your resume to policy types
List the specific lines of insurance you've worked with, whether personal lines, commercial lines, or benefits administration. Hiring managers scan for these terms fast, and a generic resume that omits them gets passed over for candidates who named them upfront.
Highlight your licensing status clearly
If you hold a Property and Casualty or Life and Health license, put it near the top of your resume, not buried in a skills section. Many postings require or strongly prefer licensed candidates, and recruiters filter on this before reading anything else.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists insurance assistant openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Match your agency management system experience
Applied Epic, Hawksoft, and AMS360 appear constantly in insurance assistant postings. Name the systems you've used in your resume rather than just writing 'agency management software,' because many job postings filter on exact system names.
Prepare for a scenario-based phone screen
Interviewers for insurance assistant roles often ask how you'd handle a policyholder disputing a premium change or a missing endorsement deadline. Practice walking through a real situation from a past role, step by step, with a clear outcome.
Follow up after interviews with a detail from the conversation
Reference something specific, like a workflow challenge the team mentioned or a carrier relationship they described. A follow-up that ties back to the actual conversation signals genuine interest and stands out in an industry that rewards attention to detail.
Insurance Assistant Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most insurance assistants?
The companies hiring the most insurance assistants right now include Risksmith Insurance Services, Oxford Life Insurance, and Selective Insurance, with the largest share of openings in Florida, New York, and Massachusetts, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Independent agencies and regional carriers consistently post high volumes of these roles year-round.
How many insurance assistant jobs are remote?
About 34% of insurance assistant openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with availability varying by employer size and line of business. Claims support and policy processing roles tend to have the highest share of remote options, while front-desk or client-facing agency positions are more commonly on-site.
How do you become an insurance assistant?
Start by earning a high school diploma or associate degree, then pursue a Property and Casualty or Life and Health license in your state, which typically involves completing a pre-licensing course and passing a state exam. Build familiarity with agency management software through entry-level office or customer service roles, then apply to insurance assistant positions at independent agencies, brokerages, or carriers.
Can you get hired as an insurance assistant with no experience?
Yes, many insurance agencies hire entry-level assistants and train them on the job, especially if you have strong customer service or administrative experience from another industry. Completing a state pre-licensing course before applying signals initiative and reduces the onboarding cost for the employer, which makes unlicensed candidates more competitive than they might expect.
What does the insurance assistant interview process look like?
Most insurance assistant interviews start with a phone screen focused on your customer service background and comfort handling detailed paperwork. An in-person or video interview typically follows, covering how you manage competing deadlines, handle difficult policyholders, and navigate specific software systems. Some employers include a short skills assessment testing data entry accuracy or basic policy knowledge before extending an offer.
Where can I find and apply to insurance assistant jobs?
You can find and apply to insurance assistant jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your experience and location, and apply directly to each listing from the same place.
