Insurance Consultant Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a insurance consultant in Illinois?
To work as an insurance consultant in Illinois, you must obtain a producer license through the Illinois Department of Insurance, which requires completing a pre-licensing education course, passing the state licensing exam for your chosen lines of authority such as property and casualty or life and health, and submitting a license application. Most employers also expect a bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field, along with familiarity with insurance products relevant to their book of business.
Which companies hire insurance consultants in Illinois?
Employers hiring insurance consultants in Illinois right now include West Monroe, InsureOne Insurance Services America, and EY, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Illinois's concentration of insurance headquarters and large regional brokerages, particularly in the Chicago metro and the Bloomington-Normal corridor, keeps demand for consultants steady across both carrier and brokerage sides of the industry.
Which Illinois cities have the most insurance consultant jobs?
Chicago, Oak Lawn, and Pekin account for the largest share of insurance consultant openings in Illinois. Chicago drives volume through its dense concentration of commercial brokerage offices, corporate risk departments, and regional carrier operations, while Bloomington-Normal reflects the long-standing headquarters presence of State Farm, and Springfield sees consistent demand tied to state government employee benefits administration and mid-market carriers serving central Illinois.
Are there remote insurance consultant jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than many client-facing roles, because insurance consulting work is largely analytical, document-driven, and conducted over phone and video with clients and underwriters. About 40% of insurance consultant openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with the most flexibility concentrated in employee benefits consulting, commercial lines account management, and risk advisory roles that do not require regular on-site client visits.
How can I get hired as a insurance consultant in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is obtaining your Illinois producer license first, which demonstrates regulatory readiness before you have a job offer. Large Illinois employers such as Allstate and Zurich North America run structured associate and rotational programs that bring in new graduates for account coordinator and client service roles, which build toward a consulting track. Adjacent roles in claims handling, underwriting support, or customer service at Illinois carriers offer a lateral entry point, and earning an entry-level designation from a recognized industry body strengthens your application at the interview stage.
Where can I find and apply to insurance consultant jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to insurance consultant jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and license type, then apply directly to the ones that fit your background and target location.
