Intern Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a intern in California?
Becoming an intern in California typically starts with enrollment in an accredited college or university program relevant to your target field. Most California employers require candidates to be currently enrolled or recently graduated. Competitive applicants build their standing through strong GPA, relevant coursework, and extracurricular projects. Many California universities maintain dedicated career centers and employer partnership programs that connect students directly with Bay Area, Los Angeles, and San Diego companies hiring for structured intern roles.
Which companies hire interns in California?
Employers hiring interns in California right now include TikTok, CVS Health, and Walgreens, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major studios, and leading biotech and research institutions means intern programs here tend to be structured, competitive, and tied to full-time conversion pipelines.
Which California cities have the most intern jobs?
San Jose, San Francisco, and Los Angeles lead California for intern openings. The Bay Area's density of technology headquarters and venture-backed startups drives volume in that region, while Los Angeles draws heavy intern demand from entertainment, media, and marketing firms, and San Diego's biotech and defense sectors support a consistent pipeline of research and engineering internships.
Are there remote intern jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 11% of intern openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the state's high concentration of tech and knowledge-work employers. Software engineering, data analytics, marketing, and product management intern roles are most likely to offer fully remote or hybrid schedules, while lab-based, film production, and on-site engineering roles almost always require in-person attendance.
How can I get hired as a intern in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to structured new-grad or sophomore-level intern programs that California's large technology, entertainment, and biotech employers run specifically for candidates without prior experience. Companies like those headquartered in Silicon Valley and the Los Angeles basin regularly recruit through campus career fairs at UC and CSU campuses. A strong class project portfolio, relevant online coursework, or a completed certificate in tools common to your target field gives you a concrete edge when professional experience is thin.
Where can I find and apply to intern jobs in California?
You can find and apply to intern jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across industries and experience levels. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly.
