IT Help Desk Specialist / Journeyman Computer Support Specialist
Location: Washington, DC
Work Arrangement: On-site
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; occasional after-hours support may be required for outages or emergencies

Travel: Occasional local support may be required in Manassas, VA and Ashburn, VA. No travel reimbursement is anticipated.
Position Summary
Alkanna is seeking two experienced IT Help Desk Specialists / Journeyman Computer Support Specialists to support a federal legislative branch client in Washington, DC. These positions will provide advanced front-line IT support for agency staff, including endpoint deployment, hardware and software troubleshooting, mobile device support, identity and access troubleshooting, ticket management, imaging, patching, documentation, and coordination with engineering, network, cloud, and cybersecurity teams.
Primary Responsibilities
The IT Help Desk Specialist will:
- Provide timely technical support to agency staff for personal computers, mobile devices, peripherals, conference room technology, employee hardware, and software systems.
- Manage, triage, document, update, and resolve support requests through the help desk ticketing system.
- Troubleshoot complex hardware, software, authentication, connectivity, and endpoint performance issues.
- Prepare, image, configure, deploy, refresh, and recover Windows, macOS, iOS, and mobile endpoint devices.
- Support endpoint management and automation platforms such as Microsoft Intune, JAMF, KACE, Ivanti, or equivalent tools.
- Support identity and access management, including Microsoft Entra ID / Active Directory, MFA, role-based access controls, and AWS-integrated identity solutions.
- Analyze logs and diagnostic data using tools such as Windows Event Viewer, macOS Console, endpoint logs, and monitoring platforms.
- Support patch management, vulnerability remediation, baseline configuration, and automated imaging workflows.
- Assist with secure remote connectivity, endpoint security controls, asset documentation, data migration, cloning, drive sanitization, and device recovery activities.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, knowledge base articles, troubleshooting guides, user instructions, and automation scripts.
- Coordinate escalations and incident response activities with Service Desk, Tier III Engineering, Network Operations, Cloud Services, and Cybersecurity teams.
- Provide daily office support and guide less experienced support personnel as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality of agency information and follow all security, access, and data-handling requirements.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have:
- Demonstrated experience providing enterprise-level IT help desk, desktop support, or systems support.
- Hands-on experience administering and troubleshooting Windows and macOS environments.
- Experience imaging, deploying, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and peripherals.
- Experience with endpoint management or automation tools such as Microsoft Intune, JAMF, KACE, Ivanti, SCCM, Autopilot, Addigy, or equivalent platforms.
- Experience with Microsoft Entra ID / Azure AD, Active Directory, MFA, RBAC, account provisioning, password resets, and access troubleshooting.
- Ability to troubleshoot authentication, VPN, network connectivity, software, hardware, printer, and endpoint performance issues.
- Ability to document technical procedures clearly and communicate status updates to users and technical teams.
- Strong customer service skills, professionalism, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work in a deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to work primarily on-site in Washington, DC.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience supporting AWS-hosted resources, AWS identity integrations, or hybrid cloud environments.
- Experience with Zero Trust security principles and endpoint security baselines.
- Experience supporting patching, vulnerability remediation, endpoint protection, and incident response.
- Experience creating SOPs, knowledge base articles, user guides, or automation scripts.
- Experience mentoring Tier I help desk personnel.
- Experience supporting federal, legislative branch, DoD, or other government environments.
Preferred certifications include one or more of the following: CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate, Apple Certified IT Professional, AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or higher, ITIL Foundation, or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate.
A bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a closely related field is preferred but not required if the candidate has strong equivalent experience.
Security and Work Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must be able to meet federal client access requirements. The selected candidate must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or H1B worker able to meet all applicable work eligibility and security requirements. The selected candidate must obtain favorable FBI criminal check results and complete fingerprinting at U.S. Capitol Police headquarters in Washington, DC before starting work. Additional cybersecurity, computer access, and agency training may be required.
