INTRODUCTION
Hajoca Corporation is one of the country’s largest privately-held wholesale distributors of plumbing, heating & cooling, and industrial supplies. Founded in 1858, Hajoca is a company based on the principles of “Service, Integrity, Reliability,” and on relationships of trust and support with teammates, customers, and suppliers. Throughout its history, Hajoca has played an active role in shaping advances in plumbing. However, we attribute our success to two simple truths; a unique business philosophy and talented people. Hajoca is all about the people, who give us our advantage, and who will guide us successfully into the future.
Although Hajoca is a large company, we work in a decentralized environment where each of our locations, called Profit Centers (PCs), is run by the Profit Center Manager as if it were their own small business. A typical Profit Center is the heart of our business and consists of a warehouse, counter, sales office, and (sometimes) a showroom. Our PCs conduct business under unique trade names and offer a customized business approach, honoring what’s special about each local marketplace.
All Tex Pipe & Supply is one of those trade names and is looking for a Sales and Leadership Trainee at their Austin, TX location.
Are you looking to pursue a long-term career in sales, business operations, or management? Do you have a strong work ethic and an eagerness to learn? Do you enjoy interacting with people and building relationships? If so, then we’d like you to join our team as a Sales & Leadership Trainee.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
The Sales & Leadership Development program is a multi-year rotational program aimed at investing in each trainee's future by providing exposure to all aspects of our business. During the program, we work in a structured, thorough manner to develop an aligned understanding of your skill set and long-term career goals.
- Live into your dreams. We'll pair your passion, skill set, and career goals with our business needs. When the program is complete, you'll have the opportunity to pursue a long-term career in sales, operations management, profit center management, or a variety of other career paths that suit your individual goals and the needs of the business.
- Learn the business. Your learning path will include on-the-job experience supplemented with coaching from experienced managers, book and computer courses, and visits with customers and vendors. You'll learn about all aspects of our business (including warehouse procedures, operations, and sales) with guidance along the way from mentors and managers.
HERE'S A LOOK AT WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH IN EACH PHASE:
Phase 1:
- Learn about and perform work related to our business operations such as receiving and shipping material, processing returned goods, making deliveries, and learning about proper truck maintenance.

- Complete related online courses that facilitate and supplement your learning.
Phase 2:
- Learn about and gain experience working in counter sales including assisting customers and other teammates, processing sales orders, providing reliable product information, and maintaining the display area.

Phase 3:
- Learn about and gain experience working in sales. Complete tasks related to pricing and margin management, bids, quotes and submittals, product procurement, and job scheduling.

Align your training plan with SOC codes
Designated sponsors require a detailed training plan tied to your occupational category. Map your marketing or sales functions to the correct SOC code using O*NET before submitting any program application to avoid delays.
Distinguish Intern from Trainee eligibility early
The Intern category requires current enrollment in a degree program, while Trainee requires at least one year of post-degree work experience in marketing or sales. Applying under the wrong category will get your DS-2019 rejected.
Search for host employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to identify U.S. employers actively hiring for Sales and Marketing Specialist roles that align with J-1 exchange visitor programs, so you're targeting companies already familiar with hosting exchange visitors.
Confirm the host employer meets DOL wage standards
Your sponsor will verify that your offered compensation meets prevailing wage levels for your role and location. Run a check using the OFLC Wage Search before accepting an offer to flag any shortfalls proactively.
Request a countersigned training plan before your interview
Your DS-7002 training plan must be signed by both your host employer supervisor and your designated sponsor before your consular interview. Missing signatures are the most common cause of appointment-day delays for Trainee applicants.
Track your 30-day grace period after program end
J-1 exchange visitors in the Trainee or Intern category receive a 30-day grace period after the program end date on the DS-2019. Plan your departure or any status change within that window to avoid an overstay on your record.
Sales And Marketing Specialist J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category fits a Sales and Marketing Specialist role?
It depends on where you are in your career. If you're currently enrolled in a degree program, the Intern category applies. If you've already completed your degree and have at least one year of professional experience in marketing or sales, you qualify for the Trainee category. Both require a structured training plan filed with a State Department-designated sponsor, not the host employer.
Who actually sponsors my J-1 visa - the employer or a separate organization?
Your J-1 visa sponsor is a State Department-designated organization such as IIE, CIEE, Cultural Vistas, or AIPT. That organization issues your DS-2019, approves your training plan, and monitors your program compliance. Your host employer provides the Sales and Marketing Specialist position but is not your visa sponsor. Conflating the two is one of the most common misunderstandings J-1 applicants encounter.
How do I find U.S. employers open to hosting J-1 Sales and Marketing Specialists?
Many employers don't advertise J-1 host positions explicitly, so standard job boards often miss them. Migrate Mate lets you filter for roles and companies aligned with J-1 exchange visitor programs, making it easier to identify hosts already set up to work with designated sponsors and file DS-7002 training plans for marketing and sales positions.
Does the 2-year home residency requirement apply to Sales and Marketing Specialists?
It can, but it isn't automatic for all Trainee or Intern participants. The 2-year home residency requirement under INA Section 212(e) typically applies if your exchange program was funded by your home government, if you're a national of a country on the State Department's Exchange Visitor Skills List, or if the program category is specifically subject to it. Your designated sponsor will confirm whether it applies to your individual DS-2019 before the program begins.
Can my J-1 training plan include remote or hybrid marketing work?
Sponsors evaluate training plans based on whether the activities provide genuine skill development tied to your field. Remote or hybrid arrangements are not automatically disqualifying, but your DS-7002 must specify the training location, supervision structure, and how remote activities fulfill the program's educational objectives. Some sponsors have tighter policies on remote work than others, so clarify this before your host employer submits the plan.
