SeatGeek believes live events are powerful experiences that unite humans. With our technological savvy and fan-first attitude we’re simplifying and modernizing the ticketing industry. SeatGeek’s innovative box office technology has unseated entrenched legacy players to win exclusive primary ticketing partnerships with many of the most iconic teams and venues in the world. The Commercial Strategy team is a major driver of SeatGeek’s success. We work hand-in-hand with Sales to make the switch to SeatGeek a no-brainer for prospects by crafting and communicating bespoke solutions that showcase SeatGeek’s technical differentiators and bottom-line impact.

Document your partnership track record precisely
Gather measurable outcomes from past roles: revenue generated through alliances, number of agreements closed, or markets entered. Designated sponsors and host employers evaluate training plans against your existing credentials, so vague experience descriptions slow the DS-2019 process.
Target host employers with cross-border operations
Companies managing international distribution, licensing, or joint-venture agreements regularly host J-1 visa Trainees and Specialists because the training plan maps naturally to global functions. Prioritize organizations with existing multinational structures over purely domestic firms.
Search verified J-1-friendly roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Strategic Partnerships Manager openings by employers that have hosted J-1 exchange visitors. This narrows your search to organizations already familiar with training plan requirements and DS-2019 coordination timelines.
Align your training plan to the Trainee category timeline
The J-1 Trainee category allows up to 18 months, extendable to 24 in certain hospitality fields. Partnerships roles in business development fall outside that extension, so structure your training objectives and milestones to fit within the standard 18-month window from day one.
Verify whether your country triggers the two-year rule
If your home country appears on the Exchange Visitor Skills List published by the State Department, you face a two-year home-residency requirement before changing to H-1B visa or a green card. Confirm your country's status before accepting an offer to plan your long-term pathway accurately.
Negotiate training plan scope before the offer stage
Host employers must submit a detailed training plan through their designated sponsor organization. Raise specific learning objectives and rotational responsibilities during interviews, not after signing, so the sponsor can certify a plan that matches what both parties actually intend.
Strategic Partnerships Manager J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category applies to Strategic Partnerships Manager roles?
Most Strategic Partnerships Manager positions fall under the J-1 Trainee or Specialist category. Trainee applies if you're within five years of graduation or initial professional employment. Specialist is for recognized experts with a narrower, specialized skill set. Neither category is designed for current students, who would use the Intern category instead.
Who actually sponsors the J-1 visa for this role?
Your visa sponsor is a U.S. Department of State-designated organization, such as Cultural Vistas or AIPT, not your host employer. The designated sponsor issues your DS-2019 form, monitors compliance with your training plan, and serves as the official point of contact with the State Department. Your hiring company functions as the host organization under that arrangement.
How do I find host employers open to J-1 exchange visitors in partnerships roles?
Use Migrate Mate to search Strategic Partnerships Manager openings filtered by employers with J-1 hosting experience. Many companies that manage alliance programs across multiple countries are already familiar with the DS-2019 process, which reduces the internal education burden you'd otherwise face when approaching employers new to exchange visitor sponsorship.
Can a Strategic Partnerships Manager role qualify for the J-1 Specialist category instead of Trainee?
Yes, if you have recognized expertise in a specific area, such as licensing negotiations, strategic alliance frameworks, or channel partner development, and your background demonstrates mastery rather than training-in-progress, a designated sponsor may certify you under the Specialist category. Specialist programs are typically shorter and require stronger documentation of your established professional standing.
Does the two-year home-residency requirement affect Strategic Partnerships Manager positions?
It can. If your home country is on the State Department's Exchange Visitor Skills List, you must return home for two years after your J-1 program before you can change to H-1B status or adjust to a green card. This doesn't prevent you from working in the role itself, but it affects your options for staying in the United States long-term after the program ends.
