Licensed Clinical Social Worker Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a licensed clinical social worker in Washington?
To become a licensed clinical social worker in Washington, you must earn a Master of Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program, complete the required supervised post-graduate clinical hours, and pass the ASWB Clinical examination. Licensure is granted by the Washington State Department of Health, which oversees the application, background check, and credential verification process. Washington does not participate in a national social work licensure compact, so each applicant must apply directly through the state.
Which companies hire licensed clinical social workers in Washington?
Employers hiring licensed clinical social workers in Washington right now include LifeStance Health, Mood Health, and Rehab Without Walls, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Washington's mix of large integrated health systems, federally qualified health centers, and state-funded community mental health agencies creates a broad and varied hiring market across the state.
Which Washington cities have the most licensed clinical social worker jobs?
Bellevue, Washington State, and Tacoma have the most licensed clinical social worker openings in Washington. Seattle leads because of its concentration of major health systems, academic medical centers, and community behavioral health organizations, while Spokane and Tacoma generate steady openings through regional hospital networks and state-contracted mental health providers serving large surrounding populations.
Are there remote licensed clinical social worker jobs in Washington?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based fields because clinical social work often involves in-person assessment, crisis response, and care coordination. About 84% of licensed clinical social worker openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with telehealth therapy and outpatient counseling roles being the most consistently offered in a fully remote format.
How can I get hired as a licensed clinical social worker in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing an associate or post-graduate supervised hours position at a community mental health center or federally qualified health center, where you accumulate the clinical hours required for full LCSW licensure. Washington employers like Sea Mar Community Health Centers and Navos Mental Health Solutions regularly hire candidates at the licensed social worker associate level for this purpose. Lateral moves from case management or social services coordinator roles at hospital systems are also common, and holding an active Washington LCSWA registration from the Department of Health gives your application a clear advantage over unlicensed candidates.
Where can I find and apply to licensed clinical social worker jobs in Washington?
You can find and apply to licensed clinical social worker jobs in Washington on Migrate Mate, which lists current Washington openings across health systems, behavioral health agencies, school districts, and government providers. Find roles that fit your experience and specialty and apply directly to each employer.
