Position Overview
The Surgery LVT plays a vital role in delivering exceptional, individualized care to every surgical patient. Working closely with our surgeons, the Surgery LVT develops and implements a patient-specific plan of care for each stage of the surgical experience: pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative. This includes assessing each patient’s individual needs, planning for anesthesia and monitoring, providing comprehensive support throughout the surgical procedure and ensuring a smooth, safe recovery with individualized post-operative care.

Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for surgical procedures, including preoperative assessments and patient preparation.
- Perform pre-anesthetic evaluations and anesthesia induction and recovery.
- Monitor anesthesia and vital signs throughout surgical procedures.
- Operate and troubleshoot anesthesia equipment and monitoring devices.
- Assist surgeons during procedures and provide appropriate intraoperative support.
- Place and maintain intravenous catheters and collect blood samples.
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Provide postoperative nursing care and monitor patients during recovery.
- Maintain accurate medical records and document anesthesia monitoring and patient care.
- Prepare discharge instructions as well as postoperative care plans.
- Communicate effectively with surgeons, other LVTs, assistants, and client service representatives.
- Provide compassionate patient care and help ensure the highest standards of patient safety.
Qualifications
- Current Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) credential in Virginia.
- Previous veterinary experience required; surgical or specialty experience preferred.
- Anesthesia monitoring and patient assessment skills preferred.
- Knowledge of surgical preparation, sterile technique, and patient monitoring.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize changes in patient condition.
