- Experience with Python, MATLAB, C++, or comparable programming languages.
- Experience with NumPy, pandas, SciPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar scientific-computing and machine-learning libraries.
- Familiarity with CFD, CAE, CAD, meshing, visualization, Linux, high-performance computing, or engineering software workflows.
- Experience developing or applying machine-learning models to scientific, engineering, physical-simulation, or time-series data.
- Familiarity with surrogate modeling, physics-informed machine learning, graph neural networks, neural operators, transfer learning, uncertainty quantification, or model explainability.
- Experience with design-of-experiments, parameter studies, optimization, or automated engineering workflows.
- Ability to evaluate data quality, identify modeling limitations, and distinguish physically meaningful results from numerical or data artifacts.
- Experience communicating technical results through reports, presentations, plots, code documentation, or demonstrations.
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with researchers and cross-functional engineering teams.

Machine Learning Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a machine learning engineer in Michigan?
Most Michigan employers require at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, or a closely related field, though many senior roles prefer a master's or PhD. There is no state-issued license specific to machine learning in Michigan. Candidates build credibility through project portfolios, open-source contributions, and relevant certifications from recognized programs in deep learning or cloud machine learning, which Michigan employers in automotive and healthcare sectors actively recognize.
Which companies hire machine learning engineers in Michigan?
Employers hiring machine learnings in Michigan right now include May Mobility, General Motors (GM), and Lucid Motors, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Michigan's strong concentration of automotive, defense, and academic research institutions means hiring extends well beyond pure tech companies into manufacturing innovation labs and hospital-affiliated research centers.
Which Michigan cities have the most machine learning jobs?
Ann Arbor, Warren, and Detroit are the Michigan cities with the most machine learning openings. Detroit draws demand from the automotive and mobility sectors, Ann Arbor benefits from the University of Michigan's research ecosystem and a dense cluster of health tech and AI startups, and any additional metros on the list typically reflect manufacturing or defense contractor hubs that have invested in data and automation initiatives.
Are there remote machine learning jobs in Michigan?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 43% of machine learning openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, reflecting how portable analytical and modeling work tends to be. Roles focused on pure model development, research, and data pipeline work are the most likely to be fully remote, while positions tied to on-site hardware, robotics, or embedded systems for Michigan's automotive clients more often require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a machine learning engineer in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an internship or rotational program at one of Michigan's large automotive or technology employers, many of which run structured new-graduate programs specifically designed for candidates without full-time experience. Adjacent roles such as data analyst, software engineer, or research assistant at University of Michigan or Michigan State affiliates frequently serve as stepping stones. Building a public project portfolio that demonstrates hands-on model work and earning a cloud machine learning certification gives candidates a concrete edge with Michigan hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to machine learning jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to machine learning jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Michigan employers. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your background and preferences, and apply directly through the listings.
