Tips for Your Mammographer Job Search
Tailor your resume to imaging modality depth
Hiring managers scan for specific equipment experience, so list every mammography unit you've operated by manufacturer and model. Separating 2D from 3D tomosynthesis experience tells a reader exactly where you'll need zero ramp-up time.
Lead with your ARRT credentials upfront
Put your ARRT (M) certification and any state licensure in the header or summary line, not buried in a credentials section. Recruiters filtering for qualified candidates often eliminate resumes that make them search for mandatory credentials.
Filter openings by site type before applying
Mobile van units, hospital-based departments, and freestanding imaging centers each have different patient volumes and scheduling rhythms. Matching your preferred environment to the posting saves you from accepting a role that doesn't fit your work style.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists mammographer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare for competency demonstration in interviews
Many imaging centers ask candidates to walk through a positioning scenario or explain how they handle a difficult compression situation. Rehearse your patient communication approach and your technique for non-standard body types before the interview, not after.
Negotiate continuing education support explicitly
ARRT (M) renewal requires ongoing CE credits, and not all employers cover course fees or paid time off to complete them. Ask during the offer stage which CE expenses are reimbursed and whether MQSA-required hours count toward your allotted CE budget.
Mammographer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most mammographers?
The companies hiring the most mammographers right now include Advocate Aurora Health, SSM Health, and UPMC, with the largest share of openings in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Illinois, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand tends to be highest at health systems operating multiple outpatient imaging locations.
How many mammographer jobs are remote?
About 4% of mammographer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of the role. The sub-areas with the most location flexibility include radiology quality assurance, MQSA compliance consulting, and mammography education or training positions.
How do you become a mammographer?
You start by completing an accredited radiologic technology program and earning your ARRT certification in radiography. From there, you complete a mammography-specific training pathway and pass the ARRT mammography post-primary examination to earn the (M) credential. Many states also require a separate radiologic technologist license, so confirm your state's requirements before applying.
Can you get hired as a mammographer with little experience?
Yes, some employers hire candidates with a radiography background who have completed a mammography clinical rotation, even without independent experience. Targeting outpatient clinics with structured mentorship programs or facilities that advertise new-grad-friendly roles improves your chances. Emphasizing any dedicated mammography clinical hours and your ARRT (M) exam status makes a meaningful difference in your application.
What does the mammographer interview process look like?
Most interviews include a phone or video screening with HR followed by an in-person interview with the lead technologist or imaging manager. You'll typically be asked about patient handling techniques, your QC testing routine, and how you approach challenging positioning cases. Some facilities include a brief skills demonstration or a tour of the mammography suite as part of the final stage.
Where can I find and apply to mammographer jobs?
You can find and apply to mammographer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search for roles that match your credentials, preferred site type, and location, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
