INTRODUCTION
Sweetgreen is looking for a Senior Marketplace Marketing Manager who is a genuine expert in third-party delivery and who can translate that expertise into a channel strategy that contributes meaningfully to sweetgreen's growth objectives. This is a role for someone who has strong data-driven opinions about what good looks like and can build the methodology to get there.
You'll own the strategy and execution, how we evaluate marketplace performance, how we structure our promotional philosophy, how we think about the tradeoffs between visibility and margin, and how sweetgreen should position itself on these platforms over the next several years.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
You will:
- Define sweetgreen's overarching marketplace strategy across DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub. Stay ahead of platform algorithm changes, new ad product rollouts, and competitive dynamics
- Develop the internal criteria and evaluation methodology for how sweetgreen measures marketplace success
- Identify and navigate the significant, non-obvious tradeoffs inherent to marketplace channels and bring a clear point of view to leadership
- Manage a marketplace agency effectively, balancing leadership and detail-orientation
- Define KPIs and build the reporting infrastructure that gives sweetgreen clear visibility into marketplace performance by analyzing platform trends, cohort behavior, and menu mix to surface insights
- Own the full marketing budget across all three platforms, including sponsored listings, in-app placements, push notifications, and promotional mechanics
- Design a promotional architecture that drives incremental volume without structurally eroding margin
- Own the digital shelf experience across all platforms: menu architecture, item visibility, photography standards, and category sequencing
- Partner with Culinary and Brand on new item launches and LTOs, ensuring marketplace storefronts reflect sweetgreen's quality standards and brand voice
- Serve as sweetgreen's primary relationship owner with platform account teams at DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub
- Partner with Finance on marketplace P&L, and Tech and Operations on seamless implementation
- Serve as the internal expert on third-party delivery, fielding questions and advising cross-functional partners across Digital, Growth, and Loyalty
- Collaborate with Legal and Finance on commission structures, contract terms, and promotional compliance
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Desired traits:
- A strategist with strong data-driven instincts, able to cut through ambiguity and develop a clear point of view where one does not yet exist
- A skilled communicator and influencer, comfortable presenting complex tradeoffs and channel strategy to senior leadership
- An operator at heart, with the rigor to build frameworks and the ownership mindset to see them through to execution
- A collaborative partner, able to work across Finance, Tech, Legal, Operations, and Brand without formal authority
- A channel expert with genuine intellectual curiosity about platform dynamics, algorithm behavior, and the evolving third-party delivery landscape
Desired experience:
- 10+ years of experience in marketplace or third-party delivery marketing, with hands-on expertise across DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub
- Demonstrated ability to build channel strategy and evaluation frameworks independently, not just execute within existing ones
- Fluency in platform advertising consoles, promotional mechanics, algorithm dynamics, and digital merchandising
- Strong analytical capability; able to evaluate complex performance data involving significant intangibles (incrementality, cannibalization, brand halo) and make sound recommendations
- Experience in restaurant, fast casual, or high-volume retail environments
- Proven track record managing significant marketplace media budgets and influencing cross-functional stakeholders at the executive level
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree a plus

Marketplace Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a marketplace manager in California?
Most marketplace manager roles in California require a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, e-commerce, or a related field. There is no state-issued license for this role, so hiring depends on demonstrated platform experience and analytical skills. California employers typically want candidates familiar with major digital marketplace ecosystems, and many build expertise through roles in digital marketing, retail buying, or category management before stepping into a marketplace manager position.
Which companies hire marketplace managers in California?
Employers hiring marketplace managers in California right now include Lyft, Metropolis Employee Services, and Patagonia, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's dense concentration of technology companies, direct-to-consumer brands, and retail headquarters makes it one of the most consistent states for marketplace management hiring throughout the year.
Which California cities have the most marketplace manager jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Palo Alto have the most marketplace manager openings in California. The Bay Area leads because of its heavy concentration of technology platforms and e-commerce companies headquartered there, while Los Angeles draws volume from its large consumer goods, media, and retail brand presence, making both metros natural hubs for this role.
Are there remote marketplace manager jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields, since marketplace management is primarily an analytical and strategic desk role that translates well to distributed teams. About 43% of marketplace manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how widely California tech and e-commerce employers have adopted flexible work arrangements. Tasks like performance reporting, listing optimization, and seller communication are especially well suited to remote formats.
How can I get hired as a marketplace manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a marketplace coordinator, e-commerce associate, or digital marketing assistant role at a California retailer, brand, or technology company. Large California employers in consumer goods and platforms often bring on associates to handle catalog management, basic seller support, or advertising execution before promoting internally. Building hands-on experience with Amazon Seller Central, Google Merchant Center, or a comparable platform, combined with a portfolio of measurable results, gives candidates the strongest edge even without a formal marketplace manager title.
Where can I find and apply to marketplace manager jobs in California?
