Mechanical Engineer Jobs in New Hampshire: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a mechanical engineer in New Hampshire?
You become a mechanical engineer in New Hampshire by earning a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited program, then pursuing licensure through the New Hampshire Office of Professional Licensure and Certification if your role requires a Professional Engineer designation. Most private-sector employers in defense, aerospace, and manufacturing hire engineers at the bachelor's level without requiring a PE license, though obtaining it strengthens long-term advancement and eligibility for higher-responsibility roles.
How much do mechanical engineers make in New Hampshire?
Mechanical engineers in New Hampshire earn a median of about $103,660 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $72,740 for the lowest 10% to over $165,500 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire mechanical engineers in New Hampshire?
Companies currently hiring mechanical engineers in New Hampshire include BAE Systems USA, Amphenol, and Jabil, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. New Hampshire's concentration of defense contractors and precision manufacturers means many openings come from large program-driven employers with multi-year hiring pipelines rather than short-term bursts.
Which New Hampshire cities have the most mechanical engineer jobs?
Nashua, Merrimack, and Manchester have the most mechanical engineer openings in New Hampshire. Manchester and Nashua drive volume through their dense corridor of defense contractors and advanced manufacturers, while Portsmouth and the Seacoast region contribute openings tied to naval shipyard support and aerospace firms with facilities near Pease Tradeport.
Are there remote mechanical engineer jobs in New Hampshire?
Yes, but they're rare. About 33% of mechanical engineer openings tied to New Hampshire are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves physical systems, lab environments, or classified facilities. The roles most likely to allow remote work are those focused on simulation, FEA modeling, or technical documentation rather than hands-on fabrication or testing.
How can I get hired as a mechanical engineer in New Hampshire with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for co-op or new-graduate roles at BAE Systems, Raytheon Technologies, or other defense contractors with structured early-career programs in New Hampshire. Many of these employers recruit directly from the University of New Hampshire and Southern New Hampshire University engineering programs. Entry roles in manufacturing engineering, test support, or design drafting frequently go to candidates without full professional experience, and earning your Engineer-in-Training designation through the New Hampshire Office of Professional Licensure and Certification signals readiness to employers with a PE pipeline.
Where can I find and apply to mechanical engineer jobs in New Hampshire?
You can find and apply to mechanical engineer jobs in New Hampshire on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings by location or specialty, find the roles that fit your background, and apply directly to the ones that match.
