Mechanical Engineer Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a mechanical engineer in Utah?
You become a mechanical engineer in Utah by earning a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited program, then pursuing licensure as a Professional Engineer through the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing if you plan to offer services to the public or work in regulated sectors. The path runs through the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, documented work experience under a licensed PE, and the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam.
How much do mechanical engineers make in Utah?
Mechanical engineers in Utah earn a median of about $102,500 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $73,070 for the lowest 10% to over $160,640 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire mechanical engineers in Utah?
Employers hiring mechanical engineers in Utah right now include Northrop Grumman, Dennis, and WSP, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Utah's aerospace and medical device corridors, concentrated along the Wasatch Front, produce particularly steady demand from both large primes and their local supplier networks.
Which Utah cities have the most mechanical engineer jobs?
Salt Lake City, Roy, and Ogden account for the largest share of mechanical engineer openings in Utah. Salt Lake City draws the broadest range of employers, while Provo benefits from its proximity to major tech and medical device firms, and Ogden's defense and aerospace contractors, anchored by Hill Air Force Base, drive demand in the northern corridor.
Are there remote mechanical engineer jobs in Utah?
Yes, but they're rare. Mechanical engineering work is largely hands-on, tied to labs, manufacturing floors, and test facilities, which limits full remote arrangements. About 21% of mechanical engineer openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions tend to concentrate in design review, simulation, and systems analysis functions that rely more on software than on physical access.
How can I get hired as a mechanical engineer in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for co-op and new-graduate rotational programs at Utah's aerospace and medical device employers, where companies like Northrop Grumman and Edwards Lifesciences regularly bring in candidates with no commercial experience. A completed ABET-accredited degree, a strong capstone project portfolio, and the Fundamentals of Engineering credential give candidates a measurable edge when competing against others with similar backgrounds for associate or junior design engineer roles.
Where can I find and apply to mechanical engineer jobs in Utah?
You can find and apply to mechanical engineer jobs in Utah on Migrate Mate, which lists current Utah openings across industries and experience levels. Search the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
