Medical Director Jobs in Denver: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a medical director job in Denver?
Focus on Denver's dominant hiring sectors: integrated health systems, payer and managed care organizations, and behavioral health networks. Roles concentrate around the Anschutz Medical Campus, Denver Health, and the growing corporate health offices in LoDo and Cherry Creek. Candidates who combine active Colorado licensure with utilization management or quality improvement experience stand out, as do those with familiarity with value-based care contracts common among Colorado's large regional payers.
Which companies hire medical directors in Denver?
Employers hiring medical directors in Denver right now include Denver Health, Sound Physicians, and Serenity Healthcare, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Denver's market includes a strong mix of large integrated health systems, regional insurance and managed care plans, multispecialty physician groups, and corporate wellness and digital health companies with local offices.
Are there remote medical director jobs in Denver?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role type. Medical director positions tied to direct patient oversight or on-site clinical operations are rarely fully remote, while utilization review, population health, and medical policy roles often allow it. About 27% of medical director openings tied to Denver are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting demand from payers and digital health companies headquartered or operating in the region. Utilization management and care management director roles are the most common remote options locally.
How can I get a medical director job in Denver with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Denver is through associate or assistant medical director roles within large health systems like Denver Health or the UCHealth network, which periodically hire physicians transitioning into administrative leadership. Managed care plans and behavioral health organizations in Denver also hire medical directors at the associate level for quality and utilization functions. Building experience in quality improvement committees, peer review, or UM within a Denver-area practice or hospital makes the transition more competitive.
Which industries hire the most medical directors in Denver?
The sectors hiring the most medical directors in Denver are Healthcare & Medical Services, Consulting & Professional Services, and Education, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Denver's combination of major academic medical infrastructure at Anschutz, a large regional managed care market, and a growing behavioral and mental health sector drives consistent demand across those industries.
