Medical Laboratory Technician Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a medical laboratory technician in Tennessee?
You need an associate degree in medical laboratory technology or clinical laboratory science from an accredited program, followed by a national certification exam through ASCP or AMT. Tennessee does not require a separate state license for MLTs, so a current ASCP MLT(ASCP) or AMT RMA credential is the standard employers look for. Many Tennessee community colleges, including those in the TBR system, offer accredited MLT programs that include clinical rotations at partnering hospitals.
Which companies hire medical laboratory technicians in Tennessee?
Employers hiring medical laboratory technicians in Tennessee right now include Ballad Health, Vibra Travels, and Baptist Memorial Health Care, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Tennessee's large integrated health systems and independent reference laboratories both maintain ongoing MLT hiring pipelines throughout the year.
Which Tennessee cities have the most medical laboratory technician jobs?
Memphis, Kingsport, and Knoxville have the most medical laboratory technician openings in Tennessee. Nashville leads because of its dense concentration of major hospital systems and academic medical centers, while Memphis draws significant hiring through its large regional health networks and research institutions, and Knoxville's openings are driven by the anchor employer presence of Covenant Health and University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Are there remote medical laboratory technician jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, but they're rare. Medical laboratory technician work is fundamentally hands-on, requiring direct handling of specimens and operation of on-site analyzers, so most positions require full on-site presence. About 0% of medical laboratory technician openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those roles tend to be limited to laboratory data review, quality assurance, or informatics functions rather than bench work.
How can I get hired as a medical laboratory technician in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a laboratory assistant or phlebotomy technician role at a large Tennessee hospital system, then transitioning internally once you have your MLT certification. Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Ballad Health, and UT Medical Center regularly post new-grad and training-track MLT openings for candidates completing accredited programs. Holding a current ASCP Student MLT designation before graduation gives applicants a concrete edge in Tennessee hiring queues, and clinical rotation experience at a Tennessee facility often leads directly to an offer.
Where can I find and apply to medical laboratory technician jobs in Tennessee?
You can find and apply to medical laboratory technician jobs in Tennessee on Migrate Mate, which lists current Tennessee openings from employers actively hiring. Find roles that fit your experience and credentials below and apply directly.
