Most medical sales representative roles in Montana require a bachelor's degree, typically in life sciences, business, or marketing, combined with sales experience in healthcare or a related field. Montana does not require a state-issued license specific to medical sales, but roles involving certain medical devices or pharmaceuticals may require manufacturer credentialing. Building familiarity with Montana's rural hospital networks and regional health systems strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
How much do medical sales representatives make in Montana?
Medical sales representatives in Montana earn a median of about $83,610 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $53,380 for the lowest 10% to over $206,390 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire medical sales representatives in Montana?

Montana's hiring is also supported by regional medical distributors and specialty pharma companies serving the state's large rural and frontier health markets.
Which Montana cities have the most medical sales representative jobs?
Billings, Missoula, and Bozeman consistently have the most medical sales representative openings in Montana. Billings leads as the state's largest city and medical hub, home to Billings Clinic and St. Vincent Healthcare, while Missoula and Great Falls generate demand through their regional hospital systems and outpatient networks serving surrounding rural communities.
Are there remote medical sales representative jobs in Montana?
Yes, but they're rare. About 14% of medical sales representative openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the fact that the role is built around in-person provider relationships and territory coverage. The portions of the work most likely to be done remotely are administrative tasks, virtual training sessions, and CRM reporting.
How can I get hired as a medical sales representative in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting in a clinical support, pharmacy technician, or medical device coordinator role at a Montana hospital system like Billings Clinic or Providence St. Patrick Hospital, then transitioning into sales once you have product and provider familiarity. Some national device companies that cover Montana run associate sales representative or sales development programs that accept candidates without direct sales experience. Completing a manufacturer's product certification and building knowledge of Montana's rural health landscape gives candidates without experience a meaningful edge.
