Medical Science Liaison Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a medical science liaison in New Jersey?
Most medical science liaison positions in New Jersey require an advanced clinical or scientific degree, typically a PharmD, MD, DO, or PhD in a life sciences discipline. New Jersey does not require a state-specific license to work as a medical science liaison, but candidates with active clinical licensure or board certification often have a competitive edge. Employers along the Route 1 corridor and in Morris County typically expect direct therapeutic area expertise gained through research, clinical practice, or a prior industry role before hiring at the field level.
How much do medical science liaisons make in New Jersey?
Medical science liaisons in New Jersey earn a median of about $117,750 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $59,000 for the lowest 10% to over $164,060 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire medical science liaisons in New Jersey?
Employers hiring medical science liaisons in New Jersey right now include Eisai, IPSEN, and Ipsen, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New Jersey's dense concentration of global pharma and biotech headquarters means the state consistently produces some of the highest MSL hiring volumes on the East Coast.
Which New Jersey cities have the most medical science liaison jobs?
Berkeley Heights, Nutley, and Newark lead New Jersey for medical science liaison openings. Princeton and the Route 1 corridor drive the bulk of postings because of the pharmaceutical and biotech campuses anchored there, while Morris County and Parsippany draw consistent volume from large company offices and regional medical affairs teams operating across the New York metro area.
Are there remote medical science liaison jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, but they are limited. The MSL role is field-based by nature, built around in-person engagement with healthcare professionals and key opinion leaders, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 56% of medical science liaison openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those arrangements tend to apply to medical affairs strategy or medical information roles adjacent to field MSL work rather than the core field position.
How can I get hired as a medical science liaison in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into an MSL role from a clinical, research, or medical affairs adjacent position. In New Jersey, candidates with postdoctoral research backgrounds or clinical fellowships at institutions like Rutgers or Robert Wood Johnson Medical School often transition into associate MSL or medical affairs associate roles at pharma companies headquartered in the Princeton or Parsippany area. Internships and rotations within medical affairs departments at large New Jersey employers give candidates direct exposure to field MSL workflows and KOL engagement before applying for full field roles.
Where can I find and apply to medical science liaison jobs in New Jersey?
You can find and apply to medical science liaison jobs in New Jersey on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your therapeutic area and experience level, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
