Mental Health Specialist Jobs in Wyoming: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a mental health specialist in Wyoming?
Becoming a mental health specialist in Wyoming typically requires a master's degree in counseling, social work, or psychology followed by supervised clinical hours and licensure through the Wyoming Mental Health Professions Licensing Board. The Board issues credentials including Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Candidates must pass a national board exam, complete a background check, and meet Wyoming's supervised experience requirements before practicing independently.
Which companies hire mental health specialists in Wyoming?
Wyoming mental health specialist roles are posted by US Department of Veterans Affairs, LIV Health, and SonderMind and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Wyoming's relatively small population means state agencies, tribal health programs, and federally qualified health centers account for a large share of consistent openings alongside private behavioral health organizations.
Which Wyoming cities have the most mental health specialist jobs?
Sheridan, Cheyenne, and Casper have the most mental health specialist openings in Wyoming. Cheyenne concentrates the most roles as the state capital and home to major state agency offices and Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, while Casper's position as Wyoming's largest commercial center draws private behavioral health practices and hospital-based programs, and Laramie benefits from the University of Wyoming's health and counseling programs.
Are there remote mental health specialist jobs in Wyoming?
Yes, and more than many clinical roles, because telehealth has expanded meaningfully in behavioral health. About 17% of mental health specialist openings tied to Wyoming are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting strong telehealth adoption across the state's rural and frontier regions. Intake coordination, case management, and telehealth therapy positions are the most likely to offer fully remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a mental health specialist in Wyoming with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is applying for a behavioral health technician or mental health associate role at a community mental health center such as Wyoming Behavioral Institute or a county-operated behavioral health program, where on-the-job supervision counts toward eventual licensure hours. The Wyoming Department of Health also hires paraprofessional case managers who work alongside licensed staff. Completing a practicum or internship at a Wyoming facility while finishing a graduate degree, or holding a certified peer support specialist credential from the Wyoming Department of Health, gives candidates a measurable edge over applicants without Wyoming-specific experience.
Where can I find and apply to mental health specialist jobs in Wyoming?
You can find and apply to mental health specialist jobs in Wyoming on Migrate Mate, which lists current Wyoming openings from employers across the state. Find roles that fit your experience and credentials and apply directly to the positions that interest you.
