MRI Technologist Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a mri technologist in New Jersey?
New Jersey does not issue a separate state license for mri technologists, so the primary credential is certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in the MRI discipline. To sit for that exam, you need to complete an accredited radiologic technology program, which most New Jersey community colleges and university hospitals offer as an associate or bachelor's degree. Many New Jersey employers treat ARRT MRI certification as a hiring requirement rather than a preference.
How much do MRI technologists make in New Jersey?
MRI technologists in New Jersey earn a median of about $103,930 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $80,850 for the lowest 10% to over $130,800 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire mri technologists in New Jersey?
Employers hiring mri technologists in New Jersey right now include Hackensack Meridian Health, Atlantic Health, and RadNet, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New Jersey's dense concentration of hospital networks and freestanding outpatient imaging centers means openings appear across both large health systems and independent radiology groups throughout the state.
Which New Jersey cities have the most mri technologist jobs?
Pennington, Edison, and Camden have the most mri technologist openings in New Jersey. Newark anchors the market as the state's largest city and home to major academic medical centers, while Camden benefits from proximity to large Philadelphia-area health systems with New Jersey campuses, and the Jersey City corridor draws demand from both urban hospital networks and suburban outpatient facilities across Hudson and Bergen counties.
Are there remote mri technologist jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, but they're rare. MRI technology is a hands-on, patient-facing role that requires operating scanner equipment on site, so in-person work is the norm. About 0% of mri technologist openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions typically involve teleradiology support, scheduling coordination, or quality assurance functions rather than direct scanning duties.
How can I get hired as a mri technologist in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate or limited-experience positions within the imaging departments of large New Jersey health systems such as RWJBarnabas Health and Hackensack Meridian Health, both of which periodically run structured onboarding programs for newly credentialed technologists. Candidates who hold ARRT certification in radiography or nuclear medicine often transition into MRI roles through internal cross-training opportunities. Completing a clinical rotation at a New Jersey facility during your accredited program also strengthens your candidacy with employers who prefer local training experience.
Where can I find and apply to mri technologist jobs in New Jersey?
