A DEA registration is also required for any prescribing role across the state.

Houston leads because of the Texas Medical Center's concentration of transplant programs and academic health systems, Dallas-Fort Worth draws volume from UT Southwestern and a dense network of outpatient practices, and San Antonio benefits from its large military and VA healthcare infrastructure alongside several regional hospital systems.
Are there remote nephrologist jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of nephrologist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how hands-on the specialty is for in-clinic dialysis management and patient procedures. The roles most likely to carry a remote or hybrid component are telenephrology consultations and chronic kidney disease management positions with established outpatient groups.
How can I get hired as a nephrologist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic path for a newly fellowship-trained nephrologist in Texas is applying directly to academic training programs or large health systems that onboard early-career physicians, such as those affiliated with UT Southwestern, UTHealth Houston, or Baylor Scott and White. These institutions offer structured onboarding and mentorship for physicians without independent practice history.
