Operations Director Jobs in Indianapolis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a operations director job in Indianapolis?
The strongest path is targeting Indianapolis's three dominant hiring sectors: logistics and distribution, healthcare systems, and advanced manufacturing. Employers along the I-70 and I-465 corridors, the downtown medical corridor, and the Keystone business district post the most roles. Candidates who can show measurable cost reductions, cross-functional team leadership, and familiarity with lean or Six Sigma methods stand out most in this market.
Which companies hire operations directors in Indianapolis?
Employers hiring operations directors in Indianapolis right now include Eli Lilly, Salesforce, and Arcwood Environmental, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Indianapolis draws a wide mix of large regional health systems, national logistics firms with Midwest distribution hubs, and mid-sized manufacturers, giving candidates strong options at both the corporate and plant-operations level.
Are there remote operations director jobs in Indianapolis?
Yes, though availability is limited by nature since operations director roles typically require on-site presence to oversee teams, facilities, and supply chains. About 32% of operations director openings tied to Indianapolis are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, skewing toward companies where strategy, vendor management, and analytics make up the bulk of the work. Fully remote roles appear most often with software-enabled logistics and business-services firms headquartered downtown.
How can I get a operations director job in Indianapolis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into an operations manager or senior coordinator role at one of Indianapolis's large distribution centers, hospital networks, or regional manufacturers before stepping up. Companies along the South Side industrial corridor and in Plainfield's logistics park regularly hire operations supervisors who build toward director-level positions. Demonstrating process improvement results, even at smaller scale, and earning a PMP or Lean Six Sigma Green Belt credential significantly strengthens a local candidacy.
Which industries hire the most operations directors in Indianapolis?
The sectors hiring the most operations directors in Indianapolis are Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, Healthcare & Medical Services, and Education, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Indianapolis's position as a national logistics crossroads, combined with its large healthcare and life-sciences employment base and legacy manufacturing presence, makes those sectors consistently the deepest source of local operations leadership openings.
