As a CML Support Specialist, you'll manage tools and equipment, maintain a safe and creative workspace, and support projects and classes across all disciplines in Gibbs College. JOB FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Senior Program Coordinator assist with and management the Gibbs College of Architecture’s Creating_Making Labs (Innovation, Teaching and Research Labs) to include all aspects of operating a model shop/research lab with tools, equipment, and machinery with a high degree of expertise and safety.
JOB DUTIES (all under the direction of the Senior Program Coordinator):
- Create and maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory for C_ML tools and supplies.
- Support in maintaining occupational safety standards for both C_ML and Gould Hall.
- Support with transport and delivery of items procured for research, course preparation, and overall supply needs for both the C_ML/Gould Hall.
- Aid in the organization, retaining and discarding of all storage needs for GCA (Saxon, C_ML and Gould).
- Install, maintain, and repair machinery and equipment.
- Maintain a clean and orderly shop.
- Calibrate digital equipment as needed (Router, Lasers and 3D Printers).
- Support with building upgrades and instructional changes for both Gould Hall and C_ML (building maintenance and improvements).
- Coordinate an efficient and thorough training program for both new faculty and new students.
- Organize schedules and operational needs of special initiatives.
- Support design students with studio-related fabrication projects throughout the fall, spring, and summer semesters.
- Maintain a working knowledge of traditional and digital fabrication tools, and 2D/3D representation techniques and software.
- Maintain shop records of student attendance and time sheets.
- Work and/or coordinate collaborative initiatives with other shops/colleges on campus and within the state as deemed appropriate by the Senior Program Coordinator.
- Occasionally assist faculty with course instruction related to the use of the C_ML and its fabrication facilities.
- All other duties as deemed appropriate by the Building Operations Manager, Senior Program Coordinator, Associate Dean for Administration, or the Dean.
This position shall receive an annual review by the Building Operations Manager, in coordination with the Director of Administration and Finance and Associate Dean of Administration.
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 4 years of experience in a fabrication, prototyping, machining, technical lab environment or related field.
Department Preferences:
- Maintains a working knowledge and ability of issues in design, composition, craft, and the built environment.
- Ability to support faculty on their C_ML-related research projects.
- Successful experiences working with and supervising students.
- Proficiency in computer applications to include, but not limited to Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator), 3D modeling environments (Rhino3D or current equivalent), 3D CAM programming (RhinoCAM, Mastercam, or current equivalent).
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure with high volume and defined deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- 3-5 years’ experience in managing records to include inventory and budgets.
- Team oriented.
- Experience and proficiency or certification in lighting, electric, welding, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, and general building trades.
- Proficiency in operating workshop machinery to include, but not limited to table saw, band saw, drill press, belt and disc sander, planer, jointer, portable sawmill, lathe, paint spray booth, laser cutter, and CNC router.
- Ability to speak in front of groups of people; faculty, students, staff, and constituents from the OU and local community.
- Working knowledge of joinery, adhesives, paints, finishes, building materials, and fasteners.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to climb, stoop, and bend as necessary.
- Shop and digital fabrication background.
- 5 years experience or Vocational training and 5 years Industry experience.
