OPT Inside Sales Representative Jobs
Inside Sales Representative jobs are a strong fit for F-1 OPT students with degrees in business, marketing, or communications. Most roles involve managing pipelines, qualifying leads, and closing deals remotely, which aligns well with OPT's 12-month work authorization window and STEM extension eligibility at tech-forward companies.

Position Summary
The Inside Sales Representative (ISR) is the front-line, primary selling role responsible for taking new Opportunities from first contact through to a closed deal. This is a process-oriented, Opportunity-focused, deal-closer role: the ISR drives sales by submitting proposals for new Opportunities and personally following up to close the sale, supported by dedicated personnel who handle data entry, research, and administrative pipeline tasks — freeing the ISR to focus on selling: engaging prospects, managing objections, and closing Opportunities.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Proposal Submission & Deal Closing
- Advance qualified Opportunities from proposal submission through to close
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the Opportunity, engaging prospects directly to understand needs, present VIVA's value, and address objections
- Proactively and persistently follow up after proposal submission to uncover feedback, resolve open items, and secure the win
- Negotiate terms and drive Opportunities to a signed, closed-won outcome
- Coordinate with the Estimating team on substitution requests and scope clarifications specific to each Opportunity
- Hand off won Opportunities cleanly to Project Management with complete, accurate documentation
Support Collaboration
- Direct and prioritize the work of support personnel handling Opportunity data entry, CRM hygiene, research, and bid tracking
- Review and validate support-prepared materials before use in the sales process, ensuring a clean hand-off so no task or deadline is missed
Pipeline Management & Reporting
- Maintain meticulous, real-time documentation of every Opportunity in Salesforce, including notes, next steps, and close dates
- Run and review pipeline and conversion reports to track close rates, flag at-risk deals, and keep every Opportunity staged and moving with a clear next action
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 2 years' experience in building products, construction, or architectural specification sales, with a track record of closing deals
- Bachelor's degree in Construction, Architecture, Interior Design, Project Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong Opportunity management and closing skills, confident, tenacious, and resilient enough to drive a deal to a decision
- Proficiency with a CRM platform, preferably Salesforce, for disciplined pipeline and process management
- Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills, with comfort directing the work of support resources

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding OPT Sponsorship in Inside Sales Representative
Target SaaS and tech companies first
Software and technology companies sponsor OPT far more frequently than traditional industries. Their inside sales teams are large, turnover is high, and many already have H-1B visa sponsorship infrastructure in place, making them more likely to extend your authorization after OPT.
Emphasize CRM and sales tool proficiency
Hiring managers screen for Salesforce, HubSpot, or Outreach experience before anything else. Listing specific tools in your resume signals you can contribute immediately, which reduces the perceived risk of hiring someone on a time-limited work authorization like OPT.
Address your OPT timeline proactively
Bring up your work authorization status early in the process, not after an offer. Framing it as a 12-month window with a clear path to H-1B sponsorship shows employers you understand the timeline and have already thought through the logistics.
Quantify pipeline and quota performance
Inside sales hiring decisions are heavily metrics-driven. Include specific numbers from internships or past roles, such as call volume, conversion rates, or pipeline generated. Concrete results make your application stand out regardless of your visa situation.
Look for roles with structured development programs
Companies that run formal Sales Development Representative or Business Development Representative programs tend to have established onboarding, legal resources, and HR processes. Those structures make it easier for them to navigate OPT and eventual H-1B sponsorship paperwork.
Use Migrate Mate to filter for OPT-friendly employers
Not every inside sales role is posted with visa sponsorship details, but browsing Migrate Mate surfaces employers who have actively hired on OPT before, saving you time and avoiding applications to companies with no sponsorship history.
Inside Sales Representative OPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Can I work as an Inside Sales Representative on F-1 OPT?
Yes, inside sales roles qualify under F-1 OPT as long as the position is directly related to your field of study, typically business, marketing, communications, or a related discipline. Your employer does not need to file any petition before you start, but your EAD card must be valid and in hand before your first day.
Do Inside Sales Representative jobs typically lead to H-1B sponsorship?
It depends on the employer. SaaS companies, enterprise software firms, and tech-driven organizations sponsor inside sales roles through H-1B fairly regularly because the position can qualify as a specialty occupation tied to a business or marketing degree. Smaller companies or those outside tech sponsor less frequently, so researching employer sponsorship history before applying is worth the effort.
Does an Inside Sales Representative role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Only if your degree is in a STEM-designated field and your employer participates in E-Verify. Inside sales itself is not a STEM occupation, but graduates with degrees in management information systems, data analytics, or similar STEM fields may qualify if the role involves quantitative analysis or technical product sales. Check your degree's CIP code against the official STEM OPT designated degree program list.
Where can I find Inside Sales Representative jobs that are open to OPT students?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find inside sales roles where employers are already open to hiring F-1 OPT students. General job boards rarely filter by visa sponsorship willingness, so you end up spending significant time applying to companies that will screen you out at the offer stage. Migrate Mate is built specifically for this.
What happens if my OPT expires while I am still in an Inside Sales Representative role?
You must stop working immediately if your EAD expires and no extension or new work authorization is in place. If your employer has filed an H-1B petition on your behalf and USCIS issues a receipt notice before your OPT ends, you may have a cap-gap period that bridges your status. Talk to your DSO well before your EAD expiration date to understand your options.
