$109,000.00 - $163,600.00The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
Responsibilities:
Manages a team that designs, develops, tests, debugs, and implements software that supports the operation of LLE’s world class Omega Laser Facility, research laboratories, and associated laboratory equipment.Determines systems software design requirements. Ensures that system improvements are successfully implemented and monitored to increase efficiency. Generates systems software engineering policies, standards, and procedures. Assures adherence to existing security, compliance, and regulatory requirements. Participates in all aspects of software development, from detailed programming to high-level system design. Oversees the performance and results of a team within own discipline or function. Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges. Provides technical guidance to employees, colleagues, and/or customers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides day-to-day oversight of the respective Lines of Business (LOBs). Assists leadership in allocating personnel and manages and/or assigns team resources. Contributes to a world-class research organization, assisting in continuous process improvement initiatives and refinement of service offerings. Leads the team in creating and adopting architectural patterns and software engineering best practices while holding the team accountable for those same standards.
- Manages the full software development lifecycle, including planning, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance. Ensures adherence to software engineering best practices, coding standards, and architectural patterns. Works with cross-functional teams, including product management, IT, and academic departments, to define technical requirements and deliver solutions. Oversees the integration of new software applications and enhancements to existing systems. Participates in project, manage risks, and ensure successful project completion.
- Works closely with product management to ensure alignment between business goals and technical execution. Partners with internal department operations and other departments to ensure seamless integration and deployment of software products. Communicates effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clarity on goals, challenges, and progress.
- Identifies emerging technologies, industry trends, and innovative practices that can be integrated into the organization’s software development processes. Empowers teams to think beyond traditional approaches, embrace continuous improvement, and iterate quickly while maintaining high standards of quality and performance. Champions initiatives that support collaboration, knowledge sharing, and mentorship, creating an environment where engineers feel inspired. Encourages creative problem-solving and experimentation and, in turn, drives the development of cutting-edge solutions.
- Run an On-Call rotation and serves as escalation and primary communicator to IT Leadership and other executives. Assists leadership in directing the technical team and coordinates the collection of labor and expense details. Maintains shared responsibility for the uninterrupted operation of the Omega Laser Facility and LLE’s developed software systems. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree related discipline such as Computer Science, Business, Data Science, Engineering, Finance, Instructional Technology and 3 years of relevant experience required
- Master's degree preferred
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience Previous experience in a supervisory capacity preferred
