Tips for Your Pedorthist Job Search
Highlight your ABC certification prominently
Employers filter applications on certification status before reading anything else. Put your American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics credential and your specialty designations in the header of your resume, not buried in a separate section.
Tailor your resume to the practice setting
A diabetic footwear clinic and a sports-medicine orthotics lab are looking for different skill emphasis. Mirror the language in each posting, whether that's casting and modification for custom footwear or gait analysis and biomechanical assessment for a rehabilitation setting.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists pedorthist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Document your custom fabrication case volume
Hiring managers want to know how many custom devices you've fit and fabricated, not just that you can do it. Quantify your caseload in your resume, such as the types of conditions you've addressed and the device categories you work with most.
Prepare clinical scenarios for the working interview
Many pedorthist interviews include a practical component where you assess a patient or evaluate a shoe last. Review your approach to common presentations like plantar fasciitis, Charcot foot, and hallux rigidus so you can walk through your clinical reasoning out loud.
Negotiate for continuing education support
Pedorthic certification requires ongoing CEUs, so employer-paid continuing education is a meaningful part of your total compensation. Ask specifically about conference reimbursement and in-house training during the offer stage, not after you've already accepted.
Pedorthist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How many pedorthist jobs are remote?
About 0% of pedorthist openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how hands-on the clinical and fabrication work is. Administrative, telehealth consultation, and product education roles within pedorthics are the sub-areas most likely to offer a remote or hybrid arrangement.
How do you become a pedorthist?
You become a pedorthist by completing a pedorthic education program accredited by the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education, accumulating the required patient care and fabrication hours, and then passing the board examination administered by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics. Once certified, you maintain your credential through continuing education credits on a renewal cycle.
Can you get hired as a pedorthist with little experience?
Yes, entry-level pedorthist roles exist, and larger orthotics and prosthetics companies as well as retail therapeutic footwear chains sometimes hire candidates who have just completed their board certification. Shadowing hours logged during your education program, any clinical rotations, and hands-on fabrication work you can document all strengthen an application when your paid experience is limited.
What does the pedorthist interview process look like?
The pedorthist interview process typically starts with a phone or video screen focused on your certification status and clinical background, followed by an in-person interview with the clinic director or lead practitioner. Many employers include a practical assessment where you evaluate a patient case or demonstrate your fitting and modification approach, and some add a final conversation about scheduling, patient volume, and billing workflow.
