Tips for Your Rehabilitation Specialist Job Search
Tailor your resume to the setting
Acute care, vocational rehab, and school-based roles each prioritize different competencies. Reorder your bullet points so the setting-specific skills, whether caseload management, IEP documentation, or return-to-work planning, appear in the top third of your resume.
List every active licensure and certification
Hiring managers filter applicants by credential before reading anything else. Put your CRC, CPRP, or state-issued license in the header of your resume, not buried in a separate section, so screeners confirm eligibility at a glance.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists rehabilitation specialist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter openings by population served
Job titles overlap heavily in this field, so use population keywords like pediatric, adult, TBI, or justice-involved when searching. You'll surface openings that match your clinical experience and skip postings where the client profile doesn't align with your background.
Prepare case examples for behavioral interviews
Interviewers in rehab roles almost always ask for a specific client success story. Draft two or three examples in advance using a situation, action, and outcome structure, with one example focused on a difficult discharge or return-to-work challenge.
Negotiate start date and caseload size
Rehabilitation specialist offers are often negotiable on caseload cap and orientation length, not just salary. If an offer feels stretched, ask whether the caseload expectation during your first 90 days can be phased in gradually before committing.
Rehabilitation Specialist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most rehabilitation specialists?
The companies hiring the most rehabilitation specialists right now include FOX Rehabilitation, RHA Health Services, and Baylor College of Medicine, with the largest share of openings in Pennsylvania, Texas, and New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. State vocational rehabilitation agencies and large hospital systems consistently account for a significant portion of openings nationwide.
How many rehabilitation specialist jobs are remote?
About 2% of rehabilitation specialist openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with the highest remote share in vocational and behavioral roles that center on counseling, case coordination, and documentation rather than hands-on therapy. Roles requiring in-person functional assessments or direct physical intervention remain predominantly on-site.
How do you become a rehabilitation specialist?
Earn a bachelor's degree in rehabilitation counseling, psychology, social work, or a closely related field, then gain supervised clinical hours through an internship or entry-level case aide position. Pursue the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor credential once you meet the supervised experience requirement. Many state vocational rehabilitation agencies require the CRC or active candidacy before hiring at the specialist level.
How do you get hired as a rehabilitation specialist with little experience?
Start by applying for case aide, rehabilitation technician, or support coordinator roles, which share the same client population and documentation workflow as specialist positions. Highlight any practicum, volunteer, or internship hours with individuals who have physical, cognitive, or behavioral disabilities. Agencies running state vocational rehabilitation programs regularly hire recent graduates who are CRC-eligible and complete the exam within their first year on the job.
What does the rehabilitation specialist interview process look like?
Most employers conduct a phone screen focused on licensure status and caseload experience, followed by one or two in-person or video rounds. Behavioral questions about conflict resolution with clients or interdisciplinary teams are standard. Some hospital systems and state agencies add a written scenario exercise where you draft a rehabilitation plan or case note, so practicing documentation before your interview is worthwhile.
Where can I find and apply to rehabilitation specialist jobs?
You can find and apply to rehabilitation specialist jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Search for roles that match your credentials, setting preference, and population focus, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
