Tips for Your Clinical Assistant Job Search
Tailor your resume for clinical settings
List specific clinical software you've used, such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth, alongside hands-on skills like phlebotomy, vital signs, or EKG. Generic healthcare resumes get passed over when hiring managers are scanning for exact competencies.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists clinical assistant openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target job postings by care setting
Clinical assistant duties vary significantly between a busy urgent care clinic and a specialty cardiology practice. Filter your search by setting so your application speaks directly to what that employer's workflow actually demands.
Highlight certifications prominently on applications
A Certified Medical Assistant credential or a current CPR certification should appear near the top of your resume, not buried in a skills section. Many applicant tracking systems screen for these terms before a human ever reads your file.
Prepare for scenario-based interview questions
Interviewers in clinical settings frequently ask how you handle a patient who refuses a procedure or how you prioritize tasks when the clinic is short-staffed. Rehearse two or three real situations from your experience before your interview date.
Follow up with a clinical-specific thank-you note
Reference a detail from the interview about the practice's patient population or a tool the team uses. A note that reflects the clinical environment signals genuine interest and helps you stand out when the hiring manager reviews candidates.
Clinical Assistant Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most clinical assistants?
The companies hiring the most clinical assistants right now include Trinity Health, Atrium Health, and Orlando Health, with the largest share of openings in Florida, Texas, and New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Large health systems and multi-site physician groups tend to post the highest volume of openings.
How many clinical assistant jobs are remote?
About 1% of clinical assistant openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of most clinical assistant duties. Remote opportunities are most common in clinical documentation, prior authorization support, and telehealth care coordination roles where direct patient contact is not required.
How do you become a clinical assistant?
Most clinical assistants complete a medical assisting certificate or associate degree program at a community college or vocational school, which typically includes both classroom instruction and a clinical externship. After graduating, you can sit for a national certification exam such as the CMA through the American Association of Medical Assistants. Many employers also hire candidates with a high school diploma and relevant hands-on experience, especially for entry-level positions in busy outpatient settings.
Can you get hired as a clinical assistant with little or no experience?
Yes, many clinical assistant roles are designed for candidates just entering the field, particularly at large outpatient clinics and health systems that run their own onboarding programs. Completing a medical assisting externship during school counts as relevant experience, and holding a current CMA credential or CPR certification can offset a shorter work history. Focusing your search on job postings that explicitly list entry-level or new-grad candidates as welcome gives you the strongest starting point.
What does the clinical assistant interview process look like?
Most clinical assistant interviews involve a phone or video screening with a recruiter followed by an in-person meeting with the clinical supervisor or office manager. You should expect questions about your hands-on skills, how you manage a high patient volume, and how you respond to difficult patient interactions. Some employers include a brief practical skills check, such as demonstrating how you take a blood pressure reading or walk through a patient intake workflow.
Where can I find and apply to clinical assistant jobs?
You can find and apply to clinical assistant jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience, care setting preference, and location, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
