Tips for Your General Pediatrician Job Search
Tailor your CV for pediatric settings
Highlight well-child visit volume, vaccine counseling experience, and any EPSDT screening work. Reviewers at community health centers and academic practices scan for patient panel size and age-range breadth, so lead with those metrics before listing procedures.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists general pediatrician openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter openings by practice setting first
Hospital-employed and private-practice general pediatrician roles differ sharply in call schedules, productivity expectations, and autonomy. Decide which model fits your lifestyle before applying so your cover letter and interview answers reflect a genuine preference.
Verify board certification requirements early
Many health systems require American Board of Pediatrics certification or active candidacy before extending an offer. Check each posting's credentialing language so you don't invest in a lengthy interview process for a role you can't start yet.
Prepare answers around your diagnostic approach
Pediatric interviews often include behavioral questions about managing diagnostic uncertainty in young patients who can't self-report symptoms. Rehearse two or three specific cases where your clinical reasoning led to an accurate diagnosis, including how you involved caregivers.
Negotiate beyond base salary at offer stage
Signing bonuses, CME allowances, malpractice tail coverage, and loan-repayment assistance vary widely between pediatric employers and aren't always included in initial offers. Ask for a full benefits breakdown in writing before you accept or decline.
General Pediatrician Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most general pediatricians?
The companies hiring the most general pediatricians right now include Emory Healthcare, Emory University, and Lehigh Valley Health Network, with the largest share of openings in Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Louisiana, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is especially concentrated at large health systems and Federally Qualified Health Centers.
How many general pediatrician jobs are remote?
About 0% of general pediatrician openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of most pediatric clinical work. The sub-areas most likely to offer remote or telehealth options include developmental-behavioral consultations, care coordination, and follow-up visits for patients with stable chronic conditions.
How do you become a general pediatrician?
You become a general pediatrician by completing a four-year medical degree, then finishing a three-year accredited pediatric residency approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. After residency you must obtain a state medical license and pass the American Board of Pediatrics certifying examination before practicing independently.
How do you get hired as a general pediatrician with little experience?
New-grad general pediatricians most often land their first role by targeting community health centers and rural health systems, which are more likely to offer supervision, mentorship, and loan-repayment assistance in exchange for practice flexibility. Completing a fellowship, presenting residency research, or securing letters from attendings at well-regarded programs all strengthen an application when clinical experience is limited.
What does the general pediatrician interview process look like?
A typical general pediatrician interview involves an initial phone or video screen with a physician recruiter or medical director, followed by an in-person site visit that includes meetings with departmental leadership, a practice tour, and often a panel interview with other pediatricians on staff. Some employers ask clinical scenario questions or request a presentation on a pediatric topic before extending an offer.
Where can I find and apply to general pediatrician jobs?
You can find and apply to general pediatrician jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings for roles that match your setting preference, specialty focus, and location, then apply directly to each position that fits.
