Tips for Your Interventional Cardiologist Job Search
Tailor your CV to procedural volume
Hiring committees want to see your case numbers, not just your titles. List your annual volume for high-complexity procedures like TAVR, left atrial appendage closure, and chronic total occlusions so reviewers can benchmark you against their program's needs.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists interventional cardiologist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Distinguish structural from general interventional credentials
Many postings now split general coronary intervention from structural heart roles. If you hold a dedicated structural fellowship or have significant TAVR and MitraClip experience, call that out in a separate credentials section so it isn't buried under general training history.
Research the lab before your interview
Know whether the program runs a high-volume hybrid OR, uses intravascular imaging routinely, or has an active ACHD program. Interviewers notice when candidates ask questions that reflect genuine familiarity with the lab's case mix and technology stack.
Negotiate call structure alongside compensation
Call frequency and backup arrangements vary enormously between community hospitals and academic centers and directly affect quality of life. Get the exact on-call ratio and any after-hours STEMI responsibility in writing before you sign, not after.
Get board certification timing right on applications
If you're board-eligible rather than board-certified, say so explicitly and include your projected exam date. Leaving it ambiguous can push your application past prescreening filters that are set up to flag uncertified candidates automatically.
Interventional Cardiologist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most interventional cardiologists?
The companies hiring the most interventional cardiologists right now include CommonSpirit Health, Prime Healthcare Services, and SSM Health, with the largest share of openings in Oregon, Wisconsin, and Illinois, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Academic medical centers and large regional health systems typically account for the majority of active postings at any given time.
How many interventional cardiologist jobs are remote?
About 1% of interventional cardiologist openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that most procedural work requires in-person presence in a cardiac catheterization lab. The sub-areas most likely to include remote components are telehealth consultation, administrative leadership roles, and medical director positions with an outpatient or advisory scope.
How do you become an interventional cardiologist?
You complete a four-year medical degree, followed by a three-year internal medicine residency, then a three-year general cardiology fellowship, and finally a one-year ACGME-accredited interventional cardiology fellowship. After training, you sit for ABIM board certification in both cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. Some candidates pursue an additional year of structural heart or peripheral vascular fellowship to qualify for complex procedural roles.
Can you get an interventional cardiologist job with limited experience?
Most programs require fellowship completion before hiring, so truly entry-level positions are rare, but new fellows can strengthen their candidacy by maximizing procedural volume during training, pursuing research or quality-improvement projects with named authorship, and seeking letters from program directors who can speak to independent case performance. Community hospitals and high-volume private groups sometimes offer first-attending roles with structured mentorship for candidates who demonstrate strong fundamentals but lighter structural or complex-coronary case numbers.
What does the interventional cardiologist interview process look like?
The process typically begins with a phone or video screen with a physician recruiter or department chief, followed by an in-person visit that includes lab tours, meetings with current attending staff, a presentation of your research or quality work, and a conversation with hospital administration. Academic programs often add a grand rounds or case conference presentation. Final-round discussions focus on call structure, practice model, and credentialing timelines rather than clinical competency, which is assumed to have been established earlier.
Where can I find and apply to interventional cardiologist jobs?
You can find and apply to interventional cardiologist jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Find roles that match your subspecialty focus, training background, and preferred practice setting, then apply directly to each listing from the page.
