Position Overview
The Physical Therapist Assistant will work under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to provide individualized, high-quality care that supports each patient's functional goals, independence, and overall well-being.
We are looking for someone who enjoys working collaboratively, communicates effectively with patients and families, and brings a positive, encouraging attitude to every session.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement individualized physical therapy treatment plans established by the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Provide therapeutic exercises, functional mobility training, balance activities, strengthening, and other interventions within the PTA's scope of practice.
- Support patients in improving strength, coordination, mobility, endurance, and functional independence.
- Educate and encourage patients and families regarding home exercise programs, safe mobility, and carryover of therapeutic activities.
- Document treatment sessions, patient progress, and other clinical information accurately and promptly.
- Communicate patient responses, progress, and concerns with the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to promote coordinated, patient-centered care.
- Maintain a safe, positive, and supportive treatment environment.
- Help patients and families feel comfortable, encouraged, and actively involved in the therapy process.
Qualifications
- Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Current South Dakota PTA license or eligibility for licensure.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- A compassionate, patient-centered approach to care.
- Ability to work independently within the PTA scope of practice while collaborating with a supervising Physical Therapist.
- Commitment to ethical practice, accurate documentation, and continued professional growth.
- Pediatric experience is a plus if applicable to your clinical interests, but a willingness to learn and work with a variety of patients is valued.
