Tips for Your Physical Therapy Technician Job Search
Tailor your resume to rehab settings
Highlight the specific clinical environments you've worked in, whether outpatient ortho, acute care, or skilled nursing. Hiring managers in physical therapy scan for setting familiarity fast, and a generic resume won't signal that you can hit the ground running.
List every relevant certification you hold
CPR, first aid, and any state-required aide certifications belong prominently on your resume, not buried in a footnote. Many PT technician postings screen by certification before a human reads the application, so incomplete listings cost you interviews.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists physical therapy technician openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter openings by patient population
Orthopedic clinics, pediatric practices, and sports rehab facilities each require different hands-on skills and patient communication styles. Targeting openings that match the population you've worked with most makes your application immediately relevant to the hiring PT.
Prepare concrete examples of patient support tasks
Interviewers for physical therapy technician roles almost always ask you to walk through how you set up equipment, assist with therapeutic exercises, or document patient progress. Rehearse two or three specific scenarios with measurable detail before your interview.
Follow up with a note that references the clinic's specialty
A brief post-interview thank-you that mentions the clinic's focus, such as post-surgical rehab or geriatric mobility, shows you were listening and understand the work. It separates you from candidates who send a generic note or none at all.
Physical Therapy Technician Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most physical therapy technicians?
The companies hiring the most physical therapy technicians right now include Rehab Employee Services, SPEAR Physical Therapy, and Ivyrehab Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy & Speech-Language Pathology, Pllc, with the largest share of openings in New York, Tennessee, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Multi-site rehabilitation networks and hospital systems tend to post the highest volume of openings consistently.
How many physical therapy technician jobs are remote?
About 0% of physical therapy technician openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of most roles. Administrative or scheduling-support positions within PT practices are the most likely to offer any remote flexibility, while direct patient care roles are almost always fully on-site.
How do you become a physical therapy technician?
You typically start by earning a high school diploma and completing a PT aide or technician training program, which may be offered through a community college or vocational school. Getting CPR and first aid certified early strengthens applications. Many technicians enter through aide roles and build clinical experience under a licensed physical therapist before taking on greater responsibilities.
Can you get hired as a physical therapy technician with little or no experience?
Yes, many clinics hire entry-level physical therapy technicians and train on the job, especially outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine practices with high patient volume. Volunteering or shadowing at a PT clinic beforehand strengthens your application significantly. Emphasizing physical stamina, reliability, and any patient-facing customer service experience helps when clinical hours are limited.
What does the physical therapy technician interview process look like?
Most physical therapy technician interviews involve an initial phone screen with HR or office staff, followed by an in-person interview with the supervising physical therapist or clinic director. Expect scenario-based questions about patient handling, equipment setup, and how you'd respond to a patient in discomfort. Some clinics include a brief facility walkthrough or a practical demonstration of basic aide tasks.
Where can I find and apply to physical therapy technician jobs?
You can find and apply to physical therapy technician jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings for roles that match your experience, preferred setting, and location, then apply directly to each opening that fits.
