Physician Jobs in Boston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a physician job in Boston?
Boston's physician market centers on academic medicine, community health, and specialty care, so aligning your application with one of those tracks matters. The Longwood Medical Area, Cambridge, and downtown community health centers hire across most specialties year-round. Candidates with fellowship training, board certification in a high-demand specialty such as primary care, hospitalist medicine, or psychiatry, and experience working in high-volume urban settings tend to move fastest through Boston hiring processes.
Which companies hire physicians in Boston?
Companies currently hiring physicians in Boston include Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Boston Medical Center, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Boston's employer mix runs heavily toward large academic health systems, federally qualified health centers, and private specialty groups concentrated in and around the Longwood corridor.
Are there remote physician jobs in Boston?
Yes, though remote physician work is limited by nature since most roles require direct patient contact. About 12% of physician openings tied to Boston are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, primarily for telehealth, utilization review, and medical director roles. Those positions are most often posted by health plans and hospital systems with administrative or population health divisions.
How can I get a physician job in Boston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Boston for early-career physicians is through residency or fellowship programs affiliated with the city's major academic health systems, which regularly convert trainees into attending roles. Community health centers across neighborhoods like Roxbury, Dorchester, and East Boston actively hire physicians newer to independent practice. Demonstrating bilingual ability, a commitment to underserved populations, or experience with high-acuity urban caseloads strengthens applications at these Boston employer types.
Which industries hire the most physicians in Boston?
The sectors hiring the most physicians in Boston are Healthcare & Medical Services, Consulting & Professional Services, and Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Boston's concentration of world-renowned research hospitals, insurance carriers, and biotech firms creates layered demand for physicians across both clinical and non-clinical functions.
