Pilot Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pilot in New York?
Becoming a pilot in New York follows FAA certification requirements, since pilot licensing is federal rather than state-issued. You earn your certificates through an FAA-approved flight school or Part 141 academy, progressing from private pilot through instrument, commercial, and ultimately the Airline Transport Pilot certificate required for airline first officer roles. New York has several Part 141 schools and community college aviation programs, and regional carriers based in the state run cadet pipeline programs for candidates who meet their hour and rating minimums.
Which companies hire pilots in New York?
Employers hiring pilots in New York right now include Peloton Interactive, Peloton, and National Grid, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's mix of major network carriers at JFK and LaGuardia, regional operators serving upstate airports, and a large corporate and charter sector means openings are spread across airline, fractional, and on-demand operations.
Which New York cities have the most pilot jobs?
New York, Mattydale, and New York City lead New York for pilot openings. New York City dominates because JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark feed the largest network of domestic and international routes in the country, while Albany and Buffalo anchor regional operations serving upstate communities and connecting passengers to hub airports, which draws regional carrier bases and charter operators to those markets.
Are there remote pilot jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. About 34% of pilot openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, because the core of the role requires physical operation of an aircraft. The portions of pilot work most compatible with remote arrangements are simulator instruction, ground school teaching, and aviation operations coordination roles that some operators post alongside flight crew positions.
How can I get hired as a pilot in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a certified flight instructor role, which lets you build hours while employed and is the standard bridge to regional airline hiring in New York. Large regional carriers such as those operating at Albany, Buffalo, and the New York metro area run cadet and flow-through programs designed for pilots who meet the FAA minimums but lack airline experience. Candidates who complete an aviation degree through a New York Part 141 college program and hold a commercial certificate with instrument rating are competitive for these positions.
Where can I find and apply to pilot jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to pilot jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your certificates and experience level, and apply directly.
