The Opportunity
Join HP’s high-impact, high-visibility HP Solutions Strategy team and help shape the future of HP Solutions across software, services, AI-enabled solutions, and emerging growth areas. This team partners closely with senior HPS leaders to define long-term direction, medium-term strategic priorities, and near-term business choices that influence portfolio strategy, planning, investment priorities, and growth opportunities.
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly analytical, results-oriented strategy leader who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys solving complex business problems, and wants to make a visible impact at scale. In this role, you will help translate market, customer, technology, competitive, and financial insights into clear strategic choices—especially across software, services, vertical solutions, AI-enabled offerings, and go-to-market models.
You will work across executive leaders, GBU teams, product, sales, marketing, finance, category, and cross-functional partners to develop insight-driven recommendations grounded in rigorous analysis and compelling strategic narratives. The role combines strategic problem solving with portfolio and GTM rigor, business case development, pricing and packaging support, and executive-ready deliverables for high-priority leadership discussions.
If you are energized by strategic problem solving, cross-functional collaboration, and building what is next for HP Solutions, we would love to hear from you.
Responsibilities
- Develop strategic analyses and insights that inform HP’s software, services, and solutions portfolio strategy, including market trends, customer needs, competitive dynamics, portfolio maturity, and growth opportunities across the HPS portfolio.
- Support the development of software, services, and vertical solutions strategies for key markets such as retail, manufacturing, healthcare, and other priority segments, leveraging the breadth of HP’s portfolio.
- Support services portfolio simplification and transition to modular offerings that enable indirect channels, improve customer value, and simplify the GTM motion for direct sales teams.
- Bring an outside-in perspective on the broader software, services, AI, and solutions ecosystem, including market trends, analyst insights, competitive positioning, customer adoption patterns, and partner models.
- Support AI-enabled services and solutions strategy by building actionable insights such as market sizing, customer use-case analysis, competitive assessments, strategic trade-off evaluations, and long-term opportunity framing.
- Partner with product, sales, marketing, finance, category, and strategy teams to translate customer pain points and use cases into clear demand hypotheses, market segmentation, TAM/SAM/SOM sizing, and differentiated value propositions.
- Evaluate core-to-edge AI solution architectures, including edge inference, required software components, services capabilities, and partner dependencies needed to bring integrated solutions to market.
- Support strategic account pursuits, customer pilots, lighthouse accounts, reference designs, and other proof points that demonstrate HP’s software, services, and solutions value proposition.
- Partner with GTM teams to develop launch readiness plans across enterprise and channel partners, including pricing, packaging, enablement, content, partner strategy, and sales motion considerations.
- Build business cases and support pricing and packaging choices, product lifecycle strategy, margin management, investment prioritization, and financial trade-off decisions.
- Structure analytical approaches, project plans, and executive-ready storylines to solve complex and ambiguous business problems with speed, clarity, and rigor.
Knowledge and Skills
- Exceptional analytical thinking, structured problem solving, and hypothesis-driven decision-making skills.
- Ability to break down ambiguous issues into clear frameworks, actionable insights, and practical recommendations.
- Strong business acumen with experience assessing markets, competitive dynamics, customer needs, business models, and GTM implications in technology, software, solutions, or services environments.
- Experience building financial models, business cases, forecasts, scenario analyses, TAM/SAM/SOM sizing, and pricing or packaging recommendations to support strategic decision-making and investment prioritization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create concise, compelling, executive-ready presentations and narratives for senior leadership audiences.
- Strong project management and prioritization skills, with the ability to independently manage multiple high-visibility workstreams.
- Proven ability to influence and collaborate across senior stakeholders, product teams, sales, marketing, finance, category teams, and global cross-functional partners.
- Curiosity, learning agility, and comfort working in a fast-moving environment with evolving priorities.
- Ability to connect technology, customer, market, and financial insights to strategic choices across software, services, AI-enabled solutions, and HP’s broader portfolio.
- High degree of ownership, sound judgment, and commitment to delivering high-quality work while helping elevate team capability.
Education and Experience
- Four-year or Graduate Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, or another related discipline, or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.
- Typically 8–10+ years of experience in corporate strategy, strategic planning, business strategy, management consulting, product strategy, product management, GTM strategy, software, services, solutions, or a related field.
- Experience in top-tier consulting, corporate strategy, or a technology/product organization with strong analytical rigor, or a similarly rigorous strategy environment, is highly desirable.
- Experience developing strategic recommendations, business cases, pricing and packaging analyses, GTM plans, and executive communications for senior leaders.
- Experience working in technology, software, SaaS, services, AI, solutions, hardware-adjacent ecosystems, or adjacent industries is strongly preferred.

Principal Jobs in Palo Alto: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a principal job in Palo Alto?
The strongest path into a principal role in Palo Alto runs through the Palo Alto Unified School District and the private and charter schools clustered along the Midpeninsula corridor. Candidates who have served as assistant principals, instructional coaches, or department heads within Silicon Valley districts stand out. Familiarity with data-driven school improvement, dual-language programs, and the expectations of a high-achieving parent community gives applicants a clear edge locally.
Which companies hire principals in Palo Alto?
Palo Alto principal roles are posted by HP, JPMorganChase, and Pika and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Hiring comes primarily from public school districts, independent preparatory schools, and edtech companies headquartered near the Stanford campus that need instructional leadership or curriculum principals.
Are there remote principal jobs in Palo Alto?
Yes, though with limits: hands-on school leadership roles require daily on-site presence, while curriculum development, edtech product, and instructional design principal roles can be fully remote. About 75% of principal openings tied to Palo Alto are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the strong edtech and research sector presence here. Curriculum and assessment principal roles are the most consistently remote in the local market.
How can I get a principal job in Palo Alto with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is securing a teacher-leader or assistant principal role within Palo Alto Unified or a neighboring Midpeninsula district first. Edtech companies near the Stanford Research Park also hire instructional coordinators and curriculum associates who progress toward principal-level roles. Volunteering for site leadership teams, pursuing a California administrative services credential while employed locally, and building relationships within the Santa Clara County Office of Education community accelerates the path considerably.
Which industries hire the most principals in Palo Alto?
Palo Alto principal roles concentrate in Law & Legal Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. The city's combination of a high-performing public school system, a dense cluster of private prep schools, and a large base of education technology companies headquartered near Stanford makes it one of the most active markets for instructional leadership talent in California.
