Principal Jobs in Columbus: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a principal job in Columbus?
Columbus principal hiring is heaviest in K-12 public and charter schools on the east and west sides, along with healthcare systems in the Medical Center District and professional services firms downtown. Candidates with demonstrated instructional leadership, turnaround experience, or district-level committee work stand out here. Familiarity with Columbus City Schools' improvement initiatives or Columbus-area charter networks gives local applicants a concrete edge.
Which companies hire principals in Columbus?
Columbus principal roles are posted by JPMorganChase, American Electric Power, and Huntington Bank and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The hiring mix in Columbus reflects its blend of large public school districts, regional healthcare networks, and a growing professional services sector anchored downtown and in the Polaris and Easton corridors.
Are there remote principal jobs in Columbus?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the type of principal role: campus-based school principals are almost always on-site, while instructional design leads, consulting principals, and technology principals can work remotely. About 50% of principal openings tied to Columbus are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with most of those concentrated in corporate or edtech contexts rather than traditional school leadership.
How can I get a principal job in Columbus with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Columbus is moving from a classroom teaching or department head role into an assistant principal position within Columbus City Schools or a local charter network, then building toward a principal opening. Columbus-area education management organizations and KIPP Columbus actively develop internal candidates. Taking on curriculum committee leadership or instructional coaching roles at your current school builds the observable leadership record Columbus districts look for.
Which industries hire the most principals in Columbus?
Most principal openings in Columbus sit in Banking & Financial Services, Consulting & Professional Services, and Fintech, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Columbus's role as Ohio's capital and a major public university hub fuels sustained demand across both traditional education administration and the professional services and technology sectors that have expanded around downtown and the Easton area.
