Mid Level Process Control Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level process control engineer job?
Highlight the systems you have owned independently, not just contributed to. Employers at this level want to see you configure, troubleshoot, and commission control systems with minimal supervision. Lead your resume with project outcomes rather than responsibilities, emphasize your proficiency with PLCs, DCS platforms, or SCADA, and show where your decisions directly affected process performance or uptime.
Which companies hire mid level process control engineers?
Companies hiring mid level process control engineers right now include LANXESS, Eli Lilly, and MP Materials, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level covers large industrial manufacturers and energy operators as well as engineering services firms that embed control engineers across client sites.
Are there remote mid level process control engineer jobs?
Yes, though most openings require some on-site presence given the hands-on nature of control systems work. About 6% of mid level process control engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with remote work most common in roles focused on engineering design, simulation, or remote monitoring rather than commissioning or maintenance.
How do I move up to a mid level process control engineer role?
The path from entry level to mid level in process control engineering is built on progressively broader ownership. Start by mastering one control platform deeply, then seek projects where you configure and troubleshoot without close supervision. Demonstrating measurable impact, such as reduced downtime or improved loop performance, and taking on work that crosses into project coordination positions you as ready for the mid level.
Which industries hire the most mid level process control engineers?
Mid Level process control engineer roles concentrate in Chemicals & Materials, Manufacturing, and Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because they operate complex, regulated processes where reliable automation and experienced engineers who can manage systems independently are essential to safe and efficient production.
