Product Design Lead Jobs in Kansas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a product design lead in Kansas?
Product design lead is not a state-licensed role in Kansas, so there is no Kansas-specific exam or registration required. The standard path is a bachelor's degree in UX design, industrial design, or human-computer interaction, followed by several years as an individual contributor designer before stepping into a lead role. Kansas employers in sectors like agtech, aerospace software, and health IT typically expect a strong portfolio of shipped products and evidence of mentoring or directing design work before promoting or hiring at the lead level.
How much do product design leads make in Kansas?
Product design leads in Kansas earn a median of about $104,870 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $60,590 for the lowest 10% to over $163,180 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire product design leads in Kansas?
Employers hiring product design leads in Kansas right now include Garmin, Bombardier, and Quanta Infrastructure Solutions, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Kansas's concentration of technology and financial services headquarters, particularly in the greater Kansas City corridor and Wichita, means steady lead-level demand rather than purely project-based hiring.
Which Kansas cities have the most product design lead jobs?
Wichita, Overland Park, and Olathe account for the largest share of product design lead openings in Kansas. The Kansas City metro, including Overland Park and Lenexa, drives volume through its dense cluster of fintech, health IT, and enterprise software companies, while Wichita contributes openings tied to aviation technology firms and regional healthcare systems that have expanded their digital product teams in recent years.
Are there remote product design lead jobs in Kansas?
Yes, and more than most fields. Product design lead work is largely screen-based, making it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 31% of product design lead openings tied to Kansas are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how broadly distributed design teams have become across the industry. Strategic and research-heavy responsibilities tend to be the most remote-compatible, while roles requiring close collaboration with hardware or manufacturing teams are more likely to be on-site.
How can I get hired as a product design lead in Kansas with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is moving into a lead role from a strong individual contributor foundation at a Kansas employer that promotes internally. Companies like Garmin and Oracle Health regularly hire associate and mid-level UX designers and advance them as their product teams grow. Building a portfolio of end-to-end case studies, contributing to open-source design systems, and taking on informal mentorship or project coordination at your current employer signals readiness before a formal title change. Adjacent roles such as UX researcher, interaction designer, or product analyst are common stepping stones that Kansas hiring managers recognize.
