The Kansas State Board of Technical Professions issues the license and oversees registration. NCARB certification can streamline the process if you are already licensed in another state.

Which companies hire architects in Kansas?
Companies currently hiring architects in Kansas include Netsmart Technologies, Koch, and DLR, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Kansas's mix of university campuses, healthcare systems, and municipal infrastructure projects keeps a consistent range of firm sizes in the market, from regional practices to offices of national firms.
Which Kansas cities have the most architect jobs?
Overland Park, Wichita, and Kansas City consistently post the most architect openings in Kansas. Wichita leads because of its large commercial and aviation-related construction sector, Kansas City and Overland Park benefit from cross-border metro development and corporate headquarters activity, and Lawrence sees recurring demand tied to the University of Kansas campus and surrounding institutional growth.
Are there remote architect jobs in Kansas?
Yes, but they are rare. Architecture is predominantly a site-dependent, client-facing profession, and most Kansas roles require in-person presence for design reviews, construction administration, and client meetings. About 64% of architect openings tied to Kansas are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to concentrate in conceptual design, BIM coordination, and technical documentation tasks.
How can I get hired as an architect in Kansas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for architectural intern or designer roles at mid-size Kansas firms while actively enrolled in or recently completing the Architectural Experience Program. Firms such as GLMV Architecture and regional practices in Wichita and Overland Park regularly bring on candidates from Kansas State University and the University of Kansas. A strong portfolio of studio work, coursework in Revit, and documented AXP hours give candidates a clear edge over applicants without them.
