Product Development Manager Jobs in San Diego: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a product development manager job in San Diego?
San Diego's strongest hiring comes from biotech and life sciences companies clustered in Torrey Pines and Sorrento Valley, defense contractors along the I-15 corridor, and consumer hardware firms in Kearny Mesa. Candidates with cross-functional experience bridging engineering and commercial teams stand out here. Targeting mid-size biotech and defense primes directly, rather than waiting for postings, gives you a real edge in this market.
Which companies hire product development managers in San Diego?
Companies currently hiring product development managers in San Diego include Intuit, Dexcom, and Illumina, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. San Diego's employer mix skews heavily toward life sciences, defense technology, and wireless communications firms, many of which maintain dedicated product development teams for regulated and hardware-intensive products.
Are there remote product development manager jobs in San Diego?
Yes, though availability depends on the sector, since hands-on hardware and lab-facing product roles typically require on-site presence while software and platform-focused product work is more remote-friendly. About 60% of product development manager openings tied to San Diego are remote or hybrid as of September 2026. Software and SaaS employers in the city are the most likely to offer fully remote arrangements.
How can I get a product development manager job in San Diego with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Diego is moving laterally from a project coordinator, associate product manager, or R&D program coordinator role at one of the city's many mid-size biotech or defense firms. Companies in Sorrento Valley and the Torrey Pines corridor regularly hire associate-level candidates who can demonstrate familiarity with stage-gate development processes or regulatory product workflows. Building that background in a junior role at a local contract research organization or defense subcontractor is a strong starting point.
Which industries hire the most product development managers in San Diego?
San Diego product development manager roles concentrate in Medical Devices and Science & Research, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. San Diego's identity as a hub for life sciences research, naval and aerospace defense contracting, and wireless technology drives sustained demand for product development leadership across all three sectors.
