The University of Colorado Department of Anesthesiology, Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology has an opening for a full-time Pediatric Anesthesiologist at the faculty rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The chief responsibility of the department is to assure the best possible outcomes for our patients having surgical operations, painful invasive and diagnostic procedures.

The primary clinical sites for this position are the Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO) hospitals located in the Denver Metro region. This premier hospital system, which has been highly ranked among pediatric hospitals for almost two decades, is a 600-bed tertiary care system, located along the front range of the Rocky Mountains. The flagship hospital is on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado with a level IV NICU and Level 1 pediatric trauma capabilities. With 4 hospitals, 16 network of care locations and more than 500 outreach clinics in over 29 cities, the CHCO network serves the children of Colorado and the 6-state surrounding region.

Key Responsibilities:

The attending pediatric anesthesiologist administers care alone or supervises physicians-in-training (residents), certified registered nurse anesthetists and certified anesthesiologist assistants. When working alone, he/she examines the patient before and after anesthesia, writes pre and post anesthesia orders, confirms that the patient is ready for anesthesia before induction, manages the anesthetic period, and follows patient as long as is appropriate in the post anesthesia period.

The position is full-time and will be assigned clinical duties in the Children’s Hospital Colorado system.

The candidate must have a strong working and theoretical knowledge of Anesthesiology and Peri-operative Medicine as well as experience in teaching Anesthesiology. To be considered for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, the candidate will have completed ACGME fellowship training in clinical pediatric anesthesiology.

As an attending pediatric anesthesiologist, the candidate may be required to perform these services in the operating room, radiology, and in the outpatient procedure center.

As faculty members of the School of Medicine, candidates are also expected to contribute to the teaching needs of the Department and the School. This may include, but is not limited to preparing and delivering lectures, serving as a preceptor, and providing one-on-one instruction. Attending anesthesiologists, as faculty members, are also expected to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the specialty by way of clinical or laboratory research.

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Assistant Professor:

• Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.

• All are expected to be either in the examination process of the American Board of Anesthesiologists ("board eligible") or a Diplomat of the Board, or to be holding certification of foreign training that is recognized as equivalent to its diploma by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Associate Professor:

• Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.

• All are expected to be either in the examination process of the American Board of Anesthesiologists ("board eligible") or a Diplomat of the Board, or to be holding certification of foreign training that is recognized as equivalent to its diploma by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

• To be hired at the rank of Associate Professor, must meet the SOM’s requirements for that rank.

• If hired at the rank of Associate Professor, the candidate’s title will be designated “Visiting,” and the candidate will be required to submit their dossier through the promotions process to remove the “visiting” designation.

Professor:

• Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.

• All are expected to be either in the examination process of the American Board of Anesthesiologists ("board eligible") or a Diplomat of the Board, or to be holding certification of foreign training that is recognized as equivalent to its diploma by the American Board of Anesthesiology.

• To be hired at the rank of Professor, must meet the SOM’s requirements for that rank.

• If hired at the rank of Professor, the candidate’s title will be designated “Visiting,” and the candidate will be required to submit their dossier through the promotions process to remove the “visiting” designation.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Board certification in pediatric anesthesiology is highly desirable and expected within 2 years of employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Strong working and theoretical knowledge of Anesthesiology and Peri-operative Medicine

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

The base salary range/rate (or hiring range/rate) has been established based on faculty rank and is intended to compensate for scheduled daily clinical work, Monday through Friday. The base salary range/rate has been benchmarked above the 50th percentile for academic pediatric anesthesia practices for the following Pediatric Anesthesiologist positions:

Assistant Professor - $385,000

Associate Professor - $410,000

Professor - $435,000

• Variable compensation paid separately

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
